    1. Computer program/CD for genealogy, frames, trees, etc.
    2. Anybody know of a CD for genealogy to make an album look good? I have UFT but want another one to make a "tree", nice frames, etc. Something to make the pages look nice. Also, want CD which makes nice Xmas frames or pages for photo albums. Or, is there someone interested in making those things for me in exchange for handcrafted photo albums, made to their specifications? Also, are there any sites on the net that might have this? Haven't found them yet, if there are. Thanks. Rita Boyd NU1111@aol.com

    1. Searching for Grandmother & family members
    2. Rick Beauchesne
    3. I am trying to find any information on my Grandmother, Lucy Trottier, born 26 Oct. 1874 in Newport, VT. If anyone would be willing to do a lookup at the town clerk's office of her birth certificate it would be greatly appreciated. I need my great, great grandparents names to continue my search. I suspect that the Trottiers came from the Mauricie Bois-Frances region in Québec, Canada, possibly Gentilly, Que. Any information on the family and their members would be helpful. My grandfather, Antonio Beauchesne was born on 12 May 1876 at St. Eusebe-de-Stanfold, Princeville, Que. I have not been able to locate either family in either the 1890 or 1900 U.S. census. My grandfather emigrated to Newport, VT, U.S. via the Canadian Pacific RR on 3 Oct 1892 so I can only guess that he knew the Trottier family. They were married in Tilton, NH on 27 Jan 1896. My great, great grandfather was Moise Beauchesne born 24 Apr 1835, Gentilly, Que. married 14 Feb 1860 Gentilly, Que. to Marie-Louise Lacerte born 9 Oct 1836. Earlier generations from Que. are family name was Bourbeau. Thank you for any help you might be able to provide. If I can repay the favor in any way let me know. I live outside of Denver and there is a regional National Archives center here so I might be able to help anyone doing research in the western U.S. Rick Beauchesne Home: Work: Rick Beauchesne U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service 16001 East Alaska Place, #13 Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR Aurora, CO 80017-2148 Bldg. 111 (303)337-4329 Commerce City, CO 80022 email: rickb@bewellnet.com (303)289-0931 work email: Rick_Beauchesne@pmrma-emh1.army.mil 140th CF (COANG) email: R BEAUCHESNE@cobkf.ang.af.mil

    3. To my fellow GenSwapers. I need to locate a birth certificate sowhere in the US. I am trying to locate a birth certificate for MARCO SANTOS born April 19, 1973, somewhere in the US. His fathers name is Marco Antonio Santos Sr. born in Mexico His mothers name is Maricela Santos (maiden name unknown.) born in Italy. 3. I agree with you. If they don't have the time, or have very limited time, they should say so. But another thing that might give some a bad attitude is that some people aren't grateful or courteous enough to thank them for their help. I am a volunteer myself, putting in quite a lot of time looking up stuff in books for people, which I certainly don't mind doing, but I like to know it's appreciated. Maybe they just forget to get back to me. But, all things considered, I won't mistreat anybody or make them feel stupid about queries they send me.

    3. Hi all... Been getting messages from this list for about a week now. I realize I must have subscribed, but I sure don't remember how or why :) Anyway, I guess what I'd like to know is exactly what kind of requests I can make of this list. If there is a web- page that I've missed, you can just lead me to that. I apologize for being so ignorant here, but as long as I'm getting the list, I figure I might as well see if it can help me in my quest :) Thanks in advance for your help Belinda ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Belinda & Clint Forgy Midwest Online PeculiarWeb Internet Designs http://www.midwestonline.com http://www.peculiarweb.com

I also help when I can. I answered one message, went to town office, copied VR, sent back to poster asking for s-mail address to send to--twice. Never heard from them. Am I upset, no; just curious. I don't know if the person died, is ill or just decided they don't need the info. I know I had some messages hanging this summer when my mom died and then my dad was injured in an accident. I'm sure those folks are wondering what happened to me but their addresses got deleted and I have no way to get in touch with them to let them know. Sometimes you can get info from your local Social Security office if you are family and looking for the person. Is the person living? If not, there are several Marco Santos listed in Ancestry's SSDI. Looks like the dates would correspond with his father's age, not the son's though. Thanks, Cheryl

    1. Bailey's of West Virginia
    2. Does anyone have records of the Floyd Edward Bailey and wife, Mary Elizabeth (Dillon) Bailey married and settled in War, McDowell County, West Virginia? They may have come from the southwest portion of Virginia in the mid to late 1800's. Mary's father's name may be James Dillon. Any help would be appreciated as we live in Delaware--far from southern West Virginia. Thanks, Judy :-)

    3. I think for the most part the volunteers who freely give their time to help others put up with, and more politely respond to, the kind of requests that people getting paid wouldn't allow. And sometimes, thankfully not often, those volunteers have a bad day at work, or have sick family members, or have any of the numerous frustrations, large and small, that afflict all of us. And sometimes they lose their temper or let the frustations get to them and take it out on someone inappropriately. It happens to all of us because we are all human. Expecting volunteers to +always+ give flawless responses to the frequently less than perfect requests is to expect something that no human being is capable of. You aren't always going to get the perfect answer. Maybe next time someone sends you a rude response, instead of calling them names, send them a note and say something like, "your response seemed a bit rough. Are you okay? Do you need a net.hug? Want to share it with someone?" - bet instead of it escalating into a flame war, you might make a virtual.friend. 3. Cheryl and the group, I agree that an answer such as this is out of line. I offered to look at the cd and discovered so many of the same surnames that I needed a place to begin. However, the request was so general that the state was not known, When I searched the cd there many, many persons with the same first inital and first name and surname in many places. When I asked for a place, the answer was again quite vague. I like to help, but please try to be specific, or give an area of the country i.e. Pennsylvania, New England ets. then it would have been quite easy to cut and paste the information. When a person starts family research it is very important to start with yourself and where you were born, this narrows down birth parents to a place and makes researching books and cd's much easier. Good luck. Frances > > > > ==== GenSwap Mailing List ==== > Are you having trouble unsubscribing to the list? She is doing research on her side of the family, I do research on my dad's side. Again, we need to remember that people who are not familiar or well versed with the web and computers may be good at genealogy research off the computers. As a rule, I always start big with something like a query, just to find out if there are any surnames on the media that I am interested in. Then narrow it down to specific people if there are too many on a broad scope. The problem is that when you run into someone like my mom, she has so many names she is researching that it's like a black hole. She spends about 10 hours a day, every day, researching and has a houseful of data. And that's without doing much research on the net yet!! You were asking for specific places for the names, also. She knows the migration path of just about all her names, so would have several locations for each. I will work on getting her up to speed on how to write queries, what to expect and what formats are easiest for the person doing the lookups. That should help the volunteer that is helping her. I think she has the data she needed from the two CDs she was asking about, so don't worry about her query. Thanks so much for all your time and efforts. Cheryl

    1. Thank you
    2. To the group: I received a flood of email from this group in support of my mom and I. There were so many, I would rather send a thank you to the group instead of everyone individually. I only received one nasty response. (go figure) Thank you all for your thoughts. They are much appreciated. I knew that the tone and spirit of this group was awesome. And sometimes little things like this make it a stronger group. It sure feels good hearing so many positive people are out there!!! Back to the group focus: I have access to the Tacoma Public Library Northwest Room and several family history centers if anyone needs lookups. Some of the highlights are obituaries in the Tacoma News Tribune. They are in the process of being indexed and are almost complete back to the 1940s. The FHCs have the birth and death indexes for Washington. There are a lot of cemetery indexes and census index books, plus the Barbour Collection, DAR, etc. I will be in Wenatchee for a WSGS Board meeting and cemetery haunting, if anyone needs anything from there. Thanks!! Cheryl Hawley
