What is needed to request a surname lookup ? The only info I have is my g'g'fathers name and marriage certificate. His name was JAMES T. KIRKLAND he married MARY ALTA COLSTON on 22 Oct,1891 in Saint Clair Co. Al. (Ashville) Alta was born 21 Feb,1877. I don't have anything on James. I do have names and dates on their children and Alta's parents if needed. Thank you Susie
Hello! I was wondering if anyone would be willing to do newspaper obit searches for me from White County, IN. In exchange, I am willing to do lookups at the Allen Co. Genealogical library. (Census lookups, PERSI holdings, you name it!) If interested, please email me directly. Thanks, Michelle mzerull@email.msn.com
I have a Greenhaw in my Goodman line. Mary Elizabeth Greenhaw married a great uncle, Thomas K. Goodman in 1876 and they lived in Izard County, Ark. where he was a doctor. He also had some mercantile establishment. I have an article from the Izard County newspaper, but don't have it handy. He and wife Elisabeth Greenhaw had three sons, Oliver Symphonious, Homer H. and Albert A. I don't know that they ever went to OK, as they were living in Ark, when he died 1899. If this rings any bells, I can lookup the news article that might give more information. I might also mention that all of the censuses up to and including 1850 have been indexed and are on microfiche at ALL Family History Centers. Some later ones are on the microfiche but not all. See also the Search 8 of the AIS on microfiche there which includes index to all extant mortality records. You will also find that nearly all genealogical libraries have some indexes available. Nearly all of these are located at the largest city in the county or in the county seat. I hear lots of newcomers out there who may not realize how much information is available to them and how much help is available. There are so many volunteer organizations out there helping off line too. Try asking your closest reference librarian to tell you where the closest gen library is. A large number of community colleges now also have collections. Most of these will also help you if you want to use interlibrary loan for microfilms and some books. I personally think that the internet is the best thing to ever hit genealogy but it should not be the only place you look. If it is, you will be missing a whole lot. Junebyr@aol.com
To all of the many who are searching of census information, please remember, the volunteers do NOT have any of your information, so to give them a name with no other information will not get a response. Time period....even a guess... and state are really vital. For census indexes the birth date is not the best date to give as no one is ever "head of the family" at birth <G>. Figure about age 25 for heads of family. Then the volunteers can do their thing. And please, please, use the url I gave you. I have been besieged!! Happy to help, but I still work full time and I'm afraid you will all have a long wait if I try to do all of them. Please go to this url http://seidata.com/~lhoffman/cdlist.html and find other volunteers with the census year you need. Thanks. Glad we can help. Peg

Hello All! Is there anyone out there that can give me any information on the "Greenhaw" surname? I have recently begun my search, and know that the family was from Arkansas moving to Oklahoma. I recently came across a Greenhaw from England in 1661. Now all I have to do is connect the dots!! If you have any info, please write. Thanks very much, Veronica
Hi Shelley and zayzay, I have indexes for many state census and can look up names for you from 1790 through 1880 census as long as that particular state is on the cd. It gives you the page number so cuts down a lot of time, searching for those elusive surnames. Good evening Swampers! Let me try it this way....If anyone could PLEASE Look on any CD for the following names, Bradley William Walker b abt 1880 married Martha Sheridan 1905-1910 They had the following children, eleven in all, I only know three William John Faber --this is my grandfather, born in Highland Park, Michigan 1906-1909 Margaret The only other information I have is a marriage record for my grandmother and grandfather, a lot of info was left out, they gave his age instead of date of birth, nothing on parents for John, I am doing pretty good on my grandmother's side. John died in Albany around 194-1953, leaving six small children and a wife. He is not in the SSDI, I have the N. America Vital Records, and they are not there for nothing, I am beginning to wonder if they crawled from a rock or what. I will be willing to do lookups in the NA Vital records or the British ones when they come (anyday I hope;0)) Thanks so much..... Terre

Try the main branch of your local library. They may have the local census data on microfilm. At the library, they may also be a genealogist who can help you with the specifics of each decade's census. Also try your local university. Hoping someone can help with North Carolina marriage of Guy (or George) E. BUCKMAN/BUCKNAM, possibly in Beaufort or Carteret County in the 1830's. Also his death record, probably in 1850's, but not sure. He went by both names, born in MA, 1790's. I am in Boston, MA and have access to most early town records. Help! Have been searching for Guy's parents for years....still no success. Thanks. Peg Buckman DavePeg@ix.netcom.com .... http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/7401/
