    2. I just had to unsub from the CORNISH-L website because I was getting over 600 e-mails a day. Now THAT's busy! Personally, I thought the snowballs were fun...and they did not last but a couple of days, whereas the Virtual Christmas Party on the CORNISH-L list started before Thanksgiving and is still going on hot and heavy! In a message dated 12/9/1998 11:40:32 AM Eastern Standard Time, call- me@mail.swbell.net writes: << Subj: Re: Personal e-mail Date: 12/9/1998 11:40:32 AM Eastern Standard Time From: call-me@mail.swbell.net Reply-to: call-me@swbell.net To: GenSwap-L@rootsweb.com George, I have to agree with Jean. Personal messages should go privately. The other lists I am on require the same. It has nothing to do with 10 hour work days, etc., but the purpose of the page. Jean may be the most efficient person on earth and still be putting in a 10 hour day, but that's not the point. Your message was unnecessarily bitchy. 3. This is my first responding to the List...I have patiently (and not so patiently) waited for that 'snowballed' mail to pass so I could read some interesting tips and stories on people finding their ancestors. I agree with George and others who have little time to wait through trivia to get to the 'exciting' parts. Jean, you need to learn about consideration for others time....it is one of their most valuable gifts. One Snowball really snowballed, didn't it? Hope we've all learned from this. Anyway, have a happy day in the snowball heaven, Jean and snowball fans. Joan call-me@mail.swbell.net wrote: > > George, > > I have to agree with Jean. Personal messages should go privately. 2. Have you by any chance checked the index of the New York Times? You will probably find the index att your local community college. A surprising number of community colleges and libraries have sets of NY Times on Microfilm and have the index books. Junebyr@aol.com

    1. RE:CA obit problems
    2. If you have death dates from the CA DI, may I ask if any of these are early? The early ones give the age. Later ones have the spouse's initial on the Index which sometimes helps to sort them out. May I ask if you have looked for the person in what you think is her last census/soundex? Perhaps that will tell you which county is most likely. If you have done both of the above and it is hopeless, try getting the local newspaper on interlibrary loan and looking for an obit. You can check for repositories for any state by going to the Library of Congress Site via Cyndi's list and looking for the newspaper project. Choose your state and see if you can find anything which might be of help. I don't know if any of these suggestions will help you but thought they might help someone. Junebyr@aol.com

    2. I too, have a full time job. I work up to 12 hours a day on occasion. I feel that "lightening things up" every so often takes us out of the rut and puts a little fun in our tasks. I have been a member of this for a little while and do not feel that it has been abused by non-genealogy info to warrant complaints. If only I reduce my snail mail unwanteds to the low levels on this list, I would have even more time!! Let's all lighten up!! There's still plenty of time left to do "our thing" after the very few distractions. Linda in Lucas
