Hi Does anyone know of a site that has newspapers or even headlines from different years? Thanks Diane
They go back to at least the 1900 as I have used them -- I think they go back to about 1850. They have the indexes in books at the library that I use but not the microfilm -- I will be at the library next week if you are looking for something and cannot find the index. I have an ancestor listed as Johann Olthaus Berns Shneider *1811+1866 Can anyone help me with the Berns Shneider part of this listing? Thanks Al
does anyone know what "reply to author" means? It means you reply to the person who sent the mail, not the list ....then we don't ALL have to listen to the squabble... :-) -----Original Message----- From: GenSwap-D-request@rootsweb.com <GenSwap-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: GenSwap-D@rootsweb.com <GenSwap-D@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, December 10, 1998 10:59 PM Subject: GenSwap-D Digest V98 #226
Hi, Is there anyone who can get to one of the Boston area libraries who can look up some obituaries for me, make copies, and send them to me? I am willing to pay reasonable expenses for doing this. E-mail me directly and I will give you the details. Thanks! Merry Christmas to all! Marilyn
Does anyone have CD317 for Family Tree Maker. I need a lookup for Ziba S. Patterson. Date 1850-1859, Location NY. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. I am just starting out and can use all the help or advise I can get. Also, is FTM a good program to get? Or can I just subscribe to their website and get the same thing? Looking for help, Lynne Williams - zayzay@tca.net
It is being sent to the incorrect address as well. One word, unsubscribe, to GenSwap-L-Request@rootsweb.com For any unsubscription requests, add "-Request" to the list address. I love it. Thank you. At first I was really sorry I ever asked for that again to share with others, but you just said it all. I needed it too, and I'm very serious about my genealogy. It is a sad state of affairs when one tries to send a little cheer to others during this stressful holiday season and they are accused of not taking genealogy seriously. Maybe that's the problem - are they taking genealogy a little too seriously. To each and everyone on this list - have a great holiday season! -----Original Message----- From: Froggee <froggee@home.com> To: GenSwap-L@rootsweb.com <GenSwap-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, December 10, 1998 12:01 PM Subject: found this in my mail >Since I am not the only one that contributed to this thread, I am sure >that many others of you may have received this. Since I am not the only one that contributed to this thread, I am sure that many others of you may have received this. Being in the holiday spirit and enjoying a little break, I want to know how one person can come to the conclusion that I am not a serious genealogist because I am not a stuffy shirt grouch. I thought the thread passed. I guess some people have a hard time of letting go. Try to have a Happy Holiday Jean. What does this have to do with genealogy research? Did you possibly get your personal address book confused with GenSwap? Are you serious about your genealogy? If not, while a few may be interested in this tripe on a professional list, there is probably many more of us that aren't. Would you like everyone else to push their jokes and ideas on you when you had no choice except to unscribe from a list that is supposed to be dedicated to genealogy?

Maybe some of you do not realize it, but when you get a message like the snowball one, and are angered by it jamming up your e-mail and decide to respond by telling everyone to stop sending personal non-genealogical messages to the list, you are doing the very same thing by causing another response to your own letter. Then it just goes on and on and you end up causing more mail than the original snowball!!!! I usually just delete these things and go on and it does happen on almost every list from time to time. It seems that someone always has to have the last word. And yes I realize I have just contributed to it by sending my own message. -----Original Message----- From: call-me@mail.swbell.net <call-me@mail.swbell.net> To: GenSwap-L@rootsweb.com <GenSwap-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, December 10, 1998 1:03 AM Subject: Re: snowballs >GEEZ PEOPLE, GIVE IT A REST WILL YA???? In addition to the NY Times Index, there is a NY Times Name Index which lists the names of people who have been mentioned in articles in the newspaper. You can then refer to the NY Times index for the day of the newspaper.
