Words have acquired different emotional levels in the assorted corners of the world, and something that might seem very mild where you can be highly offensive elsewhere (for example, I once - while speaking french - called someone a silly cow. In England in the early 1970s this was very mild indeed. Sadly, I didn't know that in France at that time it was a major insult. I don't think she ever spoke to me again).
