It's possible that your ancestor built iceboxes to be used on ships. Or maybe trains, especially if he was French Canadian. Since he was in business, did you check the directory for an ad for his business? Looking at earlier and later directories could also be useful. If you think the ship or train connection is a possibility, you might look for ship and railroad companies that used Providence.
