One can get fairly creative with the Surname Helper web site. Try Soundex searches, too. Also, check handwriting of that place/era to see how a letter may have been misinterpreted. For example, the letter "S" looked very much like an "L" in the late 1700s Virginia, so SANTONI may have been written as LANTONI.
