Bev: Are you now saying the your great grandmother was married to Charles Brooks BEFORE she was married to Henry Tavener? (BTW, I wouldn't stop spelling it that way just because one census enumerator spelled in Tavnier - the main reason being I haven't found any other listing for anyone named Tavnier). Is Charles Edward surname BROOKS? I thought you told me that Lizzie first married Henry Tavener, then Charles Brooks, then Benjamin Dressman. Please give me your best thinking on this as it affects how the census searches are made. What, if anything, can you tell me about Henry Tavener? Since he is your ancestor, perhaps you have a bit more information. Did you notice in the 1900 census record I found for you that it says Lizzie had been married 14 years. This gives you a date to start looking for her marriage record - I would try Kenton County first - and depending on what you now thing, either to Charles Brooks or Henry Tavener? What can you tell me about your uncle Charles Edward? Do you have any idea where he was born? If he was the other living child of Lizzie's, as mentioned in the 1900 census, where was he living in 1900? With his father? Where? Did you notice that the 1900 census says Lizzie was still married - not divorced or widowed. However, I can't find a reasonable match for Henry Tavener in KY, TN or OH. Each of these three places are given as the birthplace of Edith's father in the various census records for her (1900, 1910, 1920). No can I find him in the Miracode for 1910 (online at Ancestry.com). 1. [GM] Latham and Sallie Anderson

    3. Hi List. I need some ideas please. Here is my problem. My search is for Mary Louise Anderson, b. 1870 in Eddyville Ky. Parents were Allen Latham Anderson (known as "latham"), and Sarah/Sallie Douglass Rencher m. 1864 Latham was son to Charles Anderson, one time gov of Ohio, who built "Soldiers Retreat" and Kuttawa, Ky. He was also a UNION officer in the Civil War in CA., AZ., NM Sarah/Sallie was daughter to one time gov of New Mexico, Abraham Rencher. She came from a staunch CONFEDERATE family based in N. C. Latham died in 1910 in Santa Barbara, Ca. at "his prior residence" (from obit) Obits state "he leaves a wife and daughter back east". No will is on file in Santa Barbara Ca. He was buried in Kuttawa, Lyon Co., Ky. No will or probate on file. Sallie Rencher Anderson died in 1934. She is buried in the Rencher plot at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, Pittsboro, N. C. along with the rest of her (Rencher) family. NO documents in the local court house record her death, or any estate. Neither Latham, Sarah/Sallie nor Mary Louise show up in ANY census for the years 1880, 1920, or 1930. There seems to be no online record of Mary Louise being married. There is one mention of Latham Anderson in the Cincinnati Ohio directory 1890 as a surveyor (which he was). Don't know if this is my Latham... He was a surveyor at one time, and had close ties with Cincinnati,Ohio through his father Charles Anderson. There is a short newspaper article in a 1905 Tenton New Jersey newspaper that indicates Latham Anderson lost an election in Essex Co. N. J. (Newark) Don't know if this is "my" Latham...but he does have a history as a politician, author of a Civil War book, surveyor, and architect. I have run out of ideas. Do cemeteries have records as to where a person died? Who would I contact to find out ? If I could find a clue as to where Sallie Anderson died, then perhaps I could find Mary Louise. I have struck out on my attempts to find a will or probate record for Latham Anderson. His place of residence was different than his place of death, ditto for his wife Sallie. Any ideas as to how to continue this search would be greatly appreciated. bev bev <brencher@earthlink.net>

    3. >Hi Bob.. You were kind enough to reply to my query... you wrote: > Are NC death records filed at the county level or at the state > level? I believe they are filed at the county level for the year we are speaking about (1934). However, there is NO indication that Sallie Rencher Anderson died in North Carolina. I hired someone to do a search at the county level and there was absolutely no documentation to support Sallie living there or her death. She IS buried in St. Bartholomews Episc. Church Cemetery in Pittsboro N. C., no doubt there.... but so are all her siblings, mother, and father. > > Neither Latham, Sarah/Sallie nor Mary Louise show up in ANY census > > for the years 1880, 1920, or 1930. No.... they show up in NO census (censii? ) which I find rather baffling. Maybe I need to try even more alternate spellings... > For the 1880 Census find the CD version of the LDS Census > transcription and search there. Thanks for the tip. I will pursue this further.. bev bev <brencher@earthlink.net>
