    3. We have been working on the descendants of Lawrence and Elizabeth Alton. We are interested in corresponding with anyone working on these families. See our home page for more information at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~eborreson/ Eric ------------------------------ Lawrence (c. 1795-1856) and Elizabeth (c. 1790-1853) Alton lived in county Limerick, Ireland until 1829 when they emigrated to Brownville, Jefferson County, New York. Six of their eight children were born in Ireland: Christopher (c. 1816), Michael (1820), Daniel (c. 1822), Joseph (c. 1825), Richard (1825), and Valentine (1829). Two more children, Samuel (1832) and Phoebe (1834) were born in New York. In the 1840's, the Alton's started moving to Wisconsin. Lawrence and Elizabeth moved to Hartford, Washington County. She died in 1853 and he died in 1856. They are buried in the Union Cemetery in Hartford. The oldest son, Christopher, and his wife, Ann Montgomery, moved to Fond du Lac county in the late 1840's. They had five children. In 1852, Christopher remarried in Dodge County to Jane Bartlett?. They moved to Juneau county by 1854 and to Monroe County by 1855. They had two children. By 1860, he was married again to Grena Olson in Monroe County. They had five children. Michael and his wife, Sarah Wheeler, operated the Alton House hotel for many years in Hartford. They did not have any children. Joseph and his wife, Matilda Barrett, lived for a while in Monroe County, then moved west to Martin County, Minnesota. They had three children. Daniel and his wife, Isabel Frater, stayed in Washington County. They had two children. Richard and his wife, Hannah Meade, in Milwaukee County. They had three children. Valentine and his wife, Nancy Rumrill, move to Juneau County. They had five children. Samuel and his wife, Melissa Burns, settled in Pierce County after his first wife, Elizabeth, died in 1868. Phoebe and her husband, Joseph Bires, lived in Washington County for a while, then moved to Juneau County.
