    3. About a year ago my husband became a US citizen. Several people had their names changed at the same time; first, last or both! It was folded into the process. This was in a Federal Superior Court. I had my name legally changed last year. I had to get a County Court judge to sign the order. I never spoke to him. He read the document (during a recess in a trial), looked at me and signed. It is possible that when your grandmother became a citizen she also legally changed her name. If so, there should be a record of it in the Court Clerk's Office. If you can't find one, check the local newspapers around the time period she became a citizen. After the judge signed my paperwork, I had to place a notice in a paper assigned by the court for three weeks before it could be finalized.
