    3. I had an experience with the female first name "Amy" occurring in one Census as "Emma." "Emma" could be the "proper" name and "Amy" the abbreviated name or Emma could just be a name that was "mis-heard" by the Census taker. Flanagan

    3. My father has always called me 'Prue', although my actual name is Lesley. I didn't think anything of it until a school friend asked why dad called me the wrong name!! So I can quite understand that in 50 years time any still living family members might tell their descendants that my name was Prue!! On another related issue, I have an ancestor who was ALWAYS Marion within her family. Every bit of documentation within the family has her so listed -even her marriage cert. However, her birth cert has her name as Mary Ann. I beleive this was an error on the registars end as Mary Ann was an extremely comon name at that time in UK.
