I am wanting to share a large amount of information about my family history. But I want it to go to a place which is free for people to search but is also well known enough to make a difference. Can one of you suggest a web site which would be the best to submit my information to? Many thanks,

The search tools are fairly powerful as well. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com My STINCHFIELD/STANCHFIELD site: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=kzytv4-stnch
You might also want to check out GenServ.com It's the next best thing to free. Only $12.00 per year and less for seniors and students. I just send them a check to renew each year. No credit cards involved. The Cranky Genee On Wed, 09 Jan 2002 18:38:44 GMT, axelrose999@home.com (Andy) wrote: >I am wanting to share a large amount of information about my >family history. Andy <axelrose999@home.com> pressed random keys until the following was produced: > I am wanting to share a large amount of information about my > family history. Another thing to consider is longevity of that source. > Can one of you suggest a web site which would be the best to > submit my information to? I'd suggest submitting it to the LDS, and here's why: 1. Your name will be forever attached as the submitter, so you get "credit" (if you care about that), and more importantly, so that someone doing work on that line years or decades from now will have your contact information. 2. They're not some fly-by-night dotcom, that may or may not get bought out a few dozen times in the next decade or two. Who knows where you data will end up (if anywhere) in that situation? What you give some dotcom under one set of terms of agreement, may change when they're bought or sold. 3. Anyone who gets into genealogy, sooner or later, learns about the LDS and that they have a huge genealogy library. So, they'll be looking there for information. 4. They've been around alot longer than any dotcom, and have a real commitment to keeping the data available and safe; it's a tenant of their faith, and a theological motivation is alot stronger than a commercial one. Hope this helps - and if you have any other questions on this regard, I'm sure that there are quite a few folks here who would be happy to share their opinions ;) Dave Hinz
