I have been trying to do a family tree and not been getting very far on the internet due to the fact that most of the places I try to go to you have to pay for and the places that are free dont have very much good information relative to what I am looking for. I am unable at the moment to go to the east coast to go to the places I need to to find out the information first hand so if there is anyone out there that can help me get the information needed I would deeply appreciate it. This is all I know about my family history so far: My mother's grandfather, George William Spreng, Sr. was born in Philadelphia, PA to Joseph & Beatrice Pitts Spreng on 12/27/23. He had a borther by the name of Joseph Spreng, Jr. and has three sisters: Fern Wurst of Moorsetown, New Jersey; Joan Alloway of Willingboro, New Jersey; & Beatrice Heath of Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was married to Barbara Clements. They both lived, until their death in Ellseworth, Maine. George died on 1/22/01. Besides myself George also has four known grandchildren: Richard Spreng who is married to Hidi last known to be in Bangor, Maine; Robert Spreng who is married to Bridgette Chililia and last known to live in North Andover, Massachussetts; William Spreng Who was last known to be in the Air Force and in 2001 stationed at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey; & Cassidy Gustafson last known to be living in New Orleans, Louisianna. George's brother, Joseph,Jr. died in Philadelphia, Penn. on 12/02/03. He was married to Katharine Lynch who still lives in Philly. They had two sons: Joseph M. Spreng III; and Keven Spreng of Allentown, Penn; and two daughters: Dianne Saye; & Katherine Kindall. Barbara Clements Spreng was born on 8/5/21 and died in Ellsworth, Maine on 12/12/96. She had one sister, Phillis Clements Harrington who was born on 10/19/03 married Henry Harrington and died in Bangor, Maine on 9/8/99.

I don't mean to be critical but... I find it's usually best to post specific questions rather than general ones. For example it's better to concentrate on one person and ask... "Please help me find out who xyz's father was. I already know abcd...." than it is to say... I found a couple of entries in the Social Security Death Index that might be relevant: 1. Barbara Spreng born 6 Aug 1921 died 12 Dec 1996 in Maine. 2. Joseph Spreng born 2 Feb 1888 died May 1981 in Pennsylvania And here is a link to a posting on an Ancestry.com message board (free) that seems to be talking about at least some of your Spreng family. And sometimes the completed picture is somewhat different from what you initially expected to find. In my own case I discovered a couple of years ago that my great-great-grandmother had been married twice and that there was at least one child from the first marriage. Have you read up on HOW to conduct valid genealogical research? It requires work and knowledge. The first thing to do is start reading. There are sections at your local book store devoted to it, and a simple Google search on your computer will yield much valuable information.

The Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania will do limited searches of their records for $10. Check out the information here: http://www.libertynet.org/gspa/GSPInquiryProcs2.htm About 5 years ago I sent some money to the Society and in return got copies of a lot of newspaper clippings with people who all had the surname of Kennedy and among them was an obituary for my g.g.grandfather which gave the names of his parents, his deceased wife and where she was born as well as the names of his children. It was very helpful. There was also an obituary for my g.g.grandfather's brother which gave the names of his wife and children.
