Bob, Obviously showing up in soc.genealogy.misc, (to the chagrin of some) but not in alt.genealogy. Perhaps I'll try there again. Haven't changed ID for the newsgroups (although have not posted for a while until this go around). Thanks for the reply. I have been trying to find out who the parents of Nancy J. (Jane) Barton were. She is my great, great grandmother. I recently found out that she was born in McLean County, IL in 1842 or 1843, making her 7 or 8 years old for the 1850 Federal Census. The info that I have is from the 1880 Federal Census for Worcester, MA that states: Mary Jane Norton, born about 1843 in IL. Her father was born in MA and her mother born in NY. Is there anyone that can help me find who her parents were and if she had any siblings? Thanks so much! Sharon snghere@cox-internet.com

Hi, I've been going back and forth between various New York websites trying to find out which organisation holds 1918 birth certificates, how I can get hold of one, how much it costs, what ID I need and so forth. Can anyone help me through the tangled web? I'm looking for genealogical expertise on ways to answer the USCensusBureau American Community Survey http://www.census.gov/acs For Jews what are the varied ways we might answer the USCensusBureau http://www.census.gov questions 6 and 12 6 What is this person's race? Mark (X) one or more races to indicate what this person considers himself/herself to be. [ ] White [ ] Black or African American [ ] American Indian or Alaska Native - Print name of enrolled or principal tribe.--> ___________________________________ ___________________________________ [ ] Asian Indian [ ] Chinese [ ] Filipino [ ] Japanese [ ] Korean [ ] Vietnamese [ ] Other Asian - Print race.----> _____________________ [ ] Native Hawaiian [ ] Guamanian or Chamorro [ ] Samoan [ ] Other Pacific Islander - Print race below.---> _____________________ [ ] Some other race - Print race below.--> ____________________ 6. Mark one or more categories to indicate what each person considers himself or herself to be. If you mark the "American Indian or Alaska Native" box, also print the name of the tribe(s) in which the person is enrolled. If the person is not enrolled in a tribe, print the name of the principal tribe. If you mark the "Other Asian" or the "Other Pacific Islander" box, print the name of the specific race(s) or group(s) in the space provided. The category Other Asian includes persons who identify themselves as Burmese, Hmong, Indonesian, Laotian, Pakistani, Thai, Cambodian, Sri Lankan, and so on. The category Other Pacific Islander includes persons who identify themselves as Fijian, Tongan, Polynesian, Tahitian, and so on. If you mark the "Some other race" box, print the race(s) or group(s) in the space provided. The question should be answered for ALL persons, regardless of citizenship status. 12 What is this person's ancestry or ethnic origin? __________________________ __________________________ (For example: Italian, Jamaican, African Am., Cambodian, Cape Verdean, Norwegian, Dominican, French Canadian, Haitian, Korean Lebanese, Polish, Mexican, Taiwanese, Ukrainian, and so on.) 12. Print the ancestry group(s). Ancestry refers to the person's ethnic origin or descent, "roots", or heritage. Ancestry also may refer to the country of birth of the person or the person's parents or ancestors before their arrival in the United States. Answer this question for ALL persons, regardless of citizenship status. Persons who have more than one origin and cannot identify with a single-ancestry group may report two ancestry groups (for example, German-Irish). Do not report a religious group as a person's ancestry.
1880 is the year he came to the US. He would have been about 19 at that time. I'm not sure but he probably couldn't apply for citizenship until he was 21. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong. And the naturalization process takes several years, so he probably didn't get his citizenship until at least 7 years after he came here. You can read about the whole naturalization process here: http://www.nebraskahistory.org/lib-arch/services/refrence/la_pubs/natural3.htm Doug "Rich Heimlich" <agrajag@comcast.net> wrote in message news:h54ul1l05vgjdp29io1kilau9hkjau410i@4ax.com... > On Tue, 25 Oct 2005 13:09:18 GMT, "Doug Corbin" <dbcorbin@swbell.net> > wrote: > > >1880 wasn't when he was naturalized, that's the year he came to the US. I'm looking for the family of a George ADDECOTT who lived in Zimbabwe at one time. When i was in Harare a few years ago I looked in the archives, but as has been pointed out, even deceased estate files are closed for 30 years, so I could not see the Doreen ADDECOTT listed below. But I did find a reference to a George ADDICOTT (note difference in spelling) -- a Journalist who died in February 1983, and I saw his obituary in the Sunday Mail of Feb 27, 1983. They did not appear to be the same family, as the names of the children were different. The family I'm looking for is the one below, not the journalist. A few years ago I also had an e-mail from one of the children, Wendy SUTHERLAND, but her e-mail address changed, and so we lost contact. Family Group Report For: George Addecott (ID= 2242) Date Prepared: 26 Oct 2005 NAME: ADDECOTT, George MARRIED, to CREIGHTON, Doreen, Born 9 Feb 1914 in Pretoria, Died 7 Aug 1971 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe at age 57; FATHER: CRIGHTON, Frank Rubin Percy, Born 8 May 1876, Died 23 Feb 1953 at age 76; MOTHER: DARGON, Augusta Henrietta Coulson, Born 8 Nov 1876, Died 27 Jul 1954 at age 77 CHILDREN: 1.
