Hi, I am looking for any information anyone may have on a cross (Please see http://www.geocities.com/kristin223/cross.html for photos). The cross is supposed to have come from Venice with Florentine stones (possibly from Catherine De Medici or the Hapsburg line). It is supposed to offer proof of the title given to one of my Dalmatian ancestors of the title "Baroness Von Yeager." The title is matrilineal handed down to the first born girl of each generation. My aunt died in April of this year and passed the cross on to me (first born girl of my generation). I have a six year old daughter (the first born of her generation) and would like to have this all worked out before I die and pass it on to her... I am especially interested in the portions of the mosaic that are missing. I would like to know what should go in those spaces so that I can restore the cross before passing it down. I think that it may be a family crest with one of the four sides missing. On the back of the cross is imprinted: "Baroness Von Yeager" down one side and "Kathe Viens" down the other. If you have seen one similar to this or know where I might find more information about titles given from Hasburg royalty in Dalmatia, I would very much appreciate it! I am also not sure who was the ancestor who received the cross originally. So far, I have traced that side of my family back to Orasac, Dalmatia, Croatia. My great grandmother's mother is listed as Mary Valles. My great grandmother was Domenica Ann Janovich who was born there in Orasac on 14 May 1883. I am confident about Domenica's information but Valles doesn't sound very Croatian to me (it may just be one of the many translations that make genealogy in Croatia such a special challenge). :-) Thank you, again, Kristin (Millich) Rivers

Yes, I know he was born in Kingston-upon-Hull but that he also moved to the north east of England at some point. Don't know where he was living when he joined up. I just did that, and now I will make a port to alt.genealogy n/g. (A post I made to alt.genealogy.binaries showed up just fine.) Henry
Hi Henry The headers to that one aren't showing up so there's no clue that way. I assume you got that copy from your "sent" folder? It may be the case that you aren't really subscribed to alt.genealogy due to data corruption in an OE file. Have you already tried unsubscribing and then subscribing again? My great grandmother was Christina R. SEIVWRIGHT, born 1882 in Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland to Alexander SEIVWRIGHT & Ann GORDON. I have just discovered that before she was married to my great-grandfather, she had a son illegitimately. His name was (is?) Alexander Sievewright CUMMING (the father was William Brodie CUMMING born 16 May 1874 in Fordyce, Banff, Scotland to George CUMMING & Margaret STEVENSON). Alexander was known as "Sandy" and he was born 13 September 1902 at Seafield, Rathven, Banffshire. I had always just thought that "Sandy" was the long-lost older (full) brother of my grandfather, therefore had the BARRON surname. Christina married Alexander Walker BARRON on 2 June 1905 at Rathven, Banffshire and they had several children, including my grandfather, George Brian Tore BARRON, born 24 December 1914 in Pennan Village, Aberdour, Aberdeen. Alexander Walker & Christina R. (Seivwright) BARRON and all of their children, except "Sandy" left Scotland and settled in Toronto, Ontario, Canada about 1922/23. They kept in touch with "Sandy" until the years during WWII, when they lost contact. If anyone has any info at all on my grandfathers long-lost half-brother, or how I could go about finding what happened to him please contact me. Thanks! Hi Ray and Lyn > Try doing a search on Commonwealth War Graves Commission"" site > > http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/search.aspx Thank you for your reply. I had looked at that site but it seems to only list soldiers killed during the wars. My grandfather was wounded, shot through the chest/back, and luckily survived. However, whilst searching the site again, I have found a James PATTISON buried at the local cemetery here in Middlesbrough. A possible relative and worth further investigation. Order the microfilm containing the index for birth certificates -- for 1918, that's All boroughs 1917-1918 FHL US/CAN Film 1322465 The indexes are organized by borough, then (I believe in this time period) by month, and finally by name. The birth date and certificate no. will be listed. Unfortunately, their microfilms of the actual birth certificates only go to 1909 so you'll need to deal with the NYC office to get the actual certificate. If you haven't use an LDS Family History Center, you can find their locations at <http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp> Assuming you're in Oxford, I don't see any in Oxfordshire County but hopefully there's one relatively a short distance away.
