    3. Greetings Mr. Melson: Thank you for your message below, I do appreciate your warning. I'm not flogging anything but bringing an awareness about a book (factual in nature) that is a resource for genealogists who are making family connections to Rosses in North Carolina who were caught up in this famous 1920 trial. I do apologize to you and everyone here for posting this information. Best to you and yours. 1. GENDEX is back! FamilyTreeSeeker.com
    2. Gerrit Veldman
    3. Untill 2004 there was a search engine for searching in family trees on the internet. It used gendex.txt files to index thousands of family trees and contained over 60 million person names. Unfortunately Gendex.com went offline in 2004. But there is good news! Now there is FamilyTreeSeeker.com (http://www.familytreeseeker.com). A new search engine using the same gendex files. So if you use a program that can export gendex files (Ged2html, Ged2www, Gedpage, GedBrowser, TNG, PhpGedView, Legacy, etc.) you can submit your tree now. You can already search in over 2.7 million names and it's growing fast.

    1. Re: warning against subscribing to NewspaperARCHIVE.com
    2. Absolutely agree. In late November I tried newspaperarchive's free trial, and, finding that it was not of use to me, cancelled the next day. Their online cancellation form was not working, so I used email instead. Nervous that this might not be enough, I also telephoned, and got a recorded message telling me to do exactly that (i.e. email my cancellation). The following day, the online cancellation form was working again, so I also used that. Belt, braces, velcro. They have taken my money anyway, and I'm now trying -- so far without any success -- to get my money back. Avoid, avoid, avoid. 3. I am researching my ancestor Alexander Ottery 1779-1860 who married Elisabeth Wells 1799-1879 at 1819 in Stepney, Whitechapel, London. I am particularly interested in information on him, his wife, father, mother, siblings, or links to other branches of the Ottery family. I have an almost complete tree of Alexander's branch in Australia and also of another (as yet unlinked) branch headed by Thomas Ottery 1820-1890 of whom some descendants came to Australia and New Zealand c. 1850. I have this information in Family Tree Maker format and can forward it to anyone who is interested. Anyone with information or clues that will help my quest please reply or contact me at jottery@becsystems.com.au.
