If the guy is advertising his own ebay auction here, he's spamming and is inviolation of eBay's TOS, to boot. Oh - and anyone who thinks Bob doesn't do genealogy isn't paying attention, he's one of the most knowledgeable folks around. It just boggles my mind that people would spam their own eBay auctions; after all, anyone looking for that item, is already checking there, and the only potential they have by doing it, is to offend their possible bidders who don't appreciate spam. Your crankiness seems to be directed at the wrong party.

    2. Crister Lindstrm
    3. How to find out where and how someone was shot dead between 1901 and 1906? I have very few clues. It was a very young boy Johan Edvard Mauritz Lindstrom b in Sweden nov 17 1884. He left for Leadville where his father worked and arrived in summer 1901. Last trace is a phot from Greeley taken not later than feb 1902 when the business was closed. Another Swede who returned home in 1906 said that he was shot dead. There were also something about a trench. He probably changed his name to John, Ed or something more english. If he joined the army and was shot during service I asume his parents would have been noticed. In fact he vanished and was not heard of any more. Have anyone out there any ideas how to go on? Righ now I am scanning swedish-spoken newspapers from Denver and Chicago. With greetings from Stockholm crister.lindstrom@bredband.net

A death certificate would show the exact date and place of death, and probably the manner of death. See: http://www.cdphe.state.co.us/hs/certs.asp

    3. Try Family Origins, you can open two databases in separate windows and view them side by side and compare. You can drag and drop when you find something you want to add to your main data base. I recommend using the search window for this because it has most of the information in just one window in that mode. You get name, birth date, death, marriage date, parents, spouses and siblings and children with dates. You can download a trial version at http://www.formalsoft.com It is not expensive, about $30. 3. Hi there If you are searching for ancestors from the Docklands area of London,UK, you may be interested in my website: www.parishregister.com It has the baptisms registers of St Peter's,London Docks from 1878 to 1933 and contains nearly 8000 entries,490 of which are Watermen and Lightermen of the river Thames, fully searchable online. Searching is free.It costs £2.95 to view results, part of which goes to St Peter's. This is cheaper than going to the Archives yourself, and also saves a day of searching. You can also buy the complete indexed database on microfiche if you find many names you are searching for. We also have ( free ) aerial maps of the area ,ancient and modern so that you can view the streets where your ancestors lived. Kind regards James Legon

    1. Tools for Analyzing and Comparing GEDCOM Files
    2. David Cornell
    3. I am looking for a tool that will let me compare the contents of two GEDCOM files or a GEDCOM with the contents of my BK52 database. I have been sent immense GEDCOM files by other researchers that contain one or more entries for people in my family tree, but have found it very difficult to determine, short of a line by line manual comparison, to figure out what how the new information differs from what I already have. I have used Notepad to view the raw GEDCOM contents, but I find it difficult to make out the relationships that way. I can also load the GEDCOM into BK and create a new database from it, but the only way I see to compare them is to print out the same report from both databases and try to manually compare the two reports. What I'd like to have a tool that can compare two GEDCOM files, after I tell it that individual 123 in GEDCOM "A" is supposed to be the same person as individual 456 in GEDCOM "B", and have it tell me (for example), that "John Doe" in GEDCOM "A" had two wives but the same person in GEDCOM "B" had three wives. Likewise, I'd like two see any discrepancies in dates, places, names, siblings, parents, children, etc., identified, so I can make an informed judgment about the usefulness of the new material. Does anything like this exist? Thanks, David Cornell
