I just received a reply from RootsWeb: =================== A response to your Help Desk message, "RootsWeb SS DI pages terrible," of Tuesday, 26 February 2002, at 3:48 a.m. follows: Please revisit the form located at http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi if you wish to respond. Thank You!! The message reads as follows: ------------------------- Hi, I bet you are using Netscape. It seems to be e bug with Netscape and they are working on fixing it. Sorry for the hassles. D. ------------------------- Thanks to those who replied to my initial message. I guess this partially explains why IE didn't have "trouble" with their site. some people just do things for reactions. She probably just thought she would shock all the straight-laced genealogists. Could someone please tell me, where this page has moved? It used to be on this adress: http://members.tripod.com/~GrannyGrump/index.html I tried to access it, but gets this message: Sorry, but the page or file that you're looking for is not here. Sincerely Henriette Idestrup

I just double-checked to make sure and Kinkos handles that type of service. Take a look at: http://www.kinkos.com/our_services/store_services/scanning.php Take a look at their Locations lookup and there are 5 stores in and around Sacramento. It would be best to call the stores first to see if they handle that type of service and to check the price. HTH Bob
A relative in Sacramento owns a dozen important family pictures from the 1900's. I wish to arrange for scanning-to-CD of these images in a format (.tif ) that allow me to produce multiple images of each. Does anyone know the name of a reputable commercial firm in Sacramento that provides service of this kind ?

When 6.0 became available, I upgraded to that and it works much better than 5.5. With 6.0, you have cookie control! Sherry
Thanks for the reply, John. Nice touch that download via GEDCOM format. I wonder what the cutoff date is for the data, I wasn't able to find someone that I know died in December of 2001 and is in the RootsWeb SS DI. The other thing I noticed was that you can only download 50 names at a time, but of course that's better than in HTML columns format from the RootsWeb SS DI. Interesting how long the URLs are for the LDS Web Pages: SS DI: http://familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=ssdi/search_ssdi.asp&clear_form=true PAF program download: http://www.ldscatalog.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/CategoryDisplay?cgrfnbr=373032&cgmenbr=1402&CGRY_NUM=1678&RowStart=1&LocCode=FH No problem, just happened to notice it. :-) Don John Ellingsworth wrote: > > Use http://familysearch.org SSDI instead - it allows you to download the > names into a gedcom file. > Without banner ads.
Hmmm...thanks for the reply, Sherry. I just brought up IE 5.5 and tried it and found the same as with NS. In fact the download of just the screen with blank fields was 320K, it just went on and on. Ultimately there were Flash and Yahoo upgrade popups and some other advertising popup. Interestingly enough, I closed IE, then reopened, and it went much faster! Wonder what's in my Cookie file? ;-) Don C'est Moi wrote: > > Maybe they changed it since you last looked - all I see is a banner ad, > the RootsWeb banner and a simple form. I don't know much about Sacramento (other than it's in California and the capital city), but if there's a Ritz/Wolfe photo store, they do it. I used them at Christmas. Since I had prints made, I didn't price "save to disk", but the prints were reasonable enough. Cheryl
Well, well! I don't know what brought that on, but I think we need to be more tolerant of ALL people! Maybe they changed it since you last looked - all I see is a banner ad, the RootsWeb banner and a simple form. Nothing inappropriate, very clean and simple looking. And I have Java enabled. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised not too long ago when it seemed much more "clean" than it had previously.
