So you and your second cousin have the same great-grandparent(s). The "odd" generations are the ones which separate the person in question from his/her ancestor in the same generation as you. So in the case of your second cousin's grandchild, the common ancestor is *your* great- grandparent, but the grandchild's great-great-great grandparent. So you and your second cousin's grandchild are second cousins twice removed. See the chart above, and add Gen 6: His Child > ....and for upcoming reunion..is there any nicer way of > saying it, besides 'removed'?. "Removeed" sounds so harsh. I've never heard of any other way, and don't personally see anything wrong with it. Your Mileage May Vary. By the time you get to about third or fourth cousins, it doesn't make a whole lot of difference, anyway. ;-{)> -- Joe Makowiec can be reached at: http://makowiec.org/contact/?Joe

[email protected] (Ian Lenzen) Joe, I thought that terms "once removed" simply means that there is a difference of one generation, "twice removed" for 2 generations and so on...so now I'm confused by what you meant by 'odd' vs. 'even' generations....and for upcoming reunion..is there any nicer way of saying it, besides 'removed'?. "Removeed" sounds so harsh. thanks Mark
Hi, I'm a descendant of the french-canadian branch of the family of Jacques POIRIER, from Lathus (Poitou), who maried Francoise BRUNET around 1680. His son, Josephe POIRIER DIT DESLOGES, had a large descendance who spread on the west island part of Montreal in the 18th century and a few of them went to Ontario and the States. If you have any information on the european ancestry of the Poirier dit Desloges line or other North American branch, I would gladly trade everything I have on my branch. Merci. Michel Poirier
Hi, As far as I know, the "Perry" surname comes from the "Poirier" root in Quebec. As for which branch of the family it's from, I can't help since there were about 5 or 6 independent sources (from acadian source and otherwise). If ever you come across "Poirier dit Desloges" in your ancestry, I could be of help. They lived mostly in the West island of Montreal and some migrated in Ontario and further more in the States. Michel Poirier "Darleen Walsh" <[email protected]> wrote in message news:[email protected] > I am looking for any information on these surnames from Clinton County and > Franklin County in New York. The family name Blaha is not seen to often in Poland. Many more people are called Blacha, this spelling denoting a much harder "H" sound. A travel book in the library mentions a Blacha Palace in Warsaw. The Blacha name has an "herb" or coat of arms as found on this site http://republika.pl/akromer/chrzonski05.html "Czech Info Center" <[email protected]> wrote in message news:[email protected] > Published on: Sun Jan 11 23:55:01 EST 2004 > > Posted by: Joyce Horn > --------- > Trying to find lost relatives of Grandmather Hedwig Horak nee Blaha and Wilhelm Horak. > --------- > For contact, please, visit this Bulletin Board > posting published in category Find An Ancestor > at http://www.muselik.com/bb/vw.cgi?recid=91Q3OOJPJR > > CZECH INFO CENTER > http://www.muselik.com/ > Internet Premier Czech Information Resource >

"WebWerx, Inc." <[email protected]> wrote in message news:[email protected] > I have been trying to do a family tree and not been getting very far What have you done? Have you read up on HOW to conduct valid genealogical research? It requires work and knowledge. The first thing to do is start reading. There are sections at your local book store devoted to it, and a simple Google search on your computer will yield much valuable information.

I found a couple of entries in the Social Security Death Index that might be relevant: 1. Barbara Spreng born 6 Aug 1921 died 12 Dec 1996 in Maine. 2. Joseph Spreng born 2 Feb 1888 died May 1981 in Pennsylvania And here is a link to a posting on an Ancestry.com message board (free) that seems to be talking about at least some of your Spreng family. And sometimes the completed picture is somewhat different from what you initially expected to find. In my own case I discovered a couple of years ago that my great-great-grandmother had been married twice and that there was at least one child from the first marriage. This was totally unknown to any members of my branch of the family. Good luck Ron Martell Duncan B.C.
