My husband's grandfather was Antonio PACHECO who came to MA / US ~1905, but he came from the Azores. He was a 20-yr-old and came from Sao Miguel. His parents were Joao PACHECO and Jacintha COSTA, who probably remained in the Azores. I don't know where Antonio first lived, but he settled in Cambridge, MA, and married there ~1911. He was killed in a car accident in 1927, and his long-time widow always told her grandchildren that her late husband did not have any relatives in MA or New England. But, I heard from a lady last fall who said her PACHECO grandparents also lived in Cambridge, MA, and also came from the same village in Sao Miguel. So, we are beginning to believe that Mrs. PACHECO lied to her grandchildren. She was pregnant with twins in 1927 and delivered a month later; both babies died before they were 2. She had 5 children who did survive and she had to raise them alone. So, I now think she remained angry at her late husband for the rest of her life. Mrs. Elsie (MOURA) PACHECO also came over ~1905 but as a 12-yr-old. She was to be an indentured servant for 7 years. Her mother and 4 siblings came over ~1910; I don't know what happened to her father, Francisco MOURA. Some members of this extended family did live in Somerville, and spouses included the names, MEDEIROS and PERRY / PEREIRA. .. Many times on census records people were listed as having come from Portugal - when they actually came from the Azores. Do you have census information?
