    3. Of course, the deaths are only listed in the SSDI if the deceased was receiving funds from the SSA at the time of death, and if the death was reported to the SSA. A more intensive search MIGHT uncover a death location, if you can find an obit or something like that. Remember that obits are sometimes published in the place of birth, as well as the place of death. I'd look there, or the place where the deceased lived a goodly part of his/her life. And I'd like to ask if there is a way to find out which town or city they died in -- without driving to Boston, or without writing to the Soc. Sec. Admin. Office. Carleton HUTCHINSON, born Mar. 1870 MA, died in Aug. 1962. The SSDI does not offer any information on a town or city in MA where he either resided or died. Joseph KERR, born ~1863 Canada / P.Q., lived in MA, from 1880's lived in WA from 1901, probably died in MA during 1950's. The obituary for Robert, his brother in WA in 1950, stated that Joseph was then in MA. He would have been in his late 80's at the time. I was reminded this week that the information on deaths at the SSDI doesn't start until 1962. (I used the SSDI at www.familysearch.org ) (Both of my grandfathers died almost exactly one year from each other in Nov. 1960 and Nov. 1961, and neither come up in the SSDI.) I'm hoping answers to this question will help other researchers who are looking for death information from the 1950's and 1960's. Betty (near Lowell, MA) (The information mentioned comes from my on-line research.) Remember to check the archives of all the Lists and Boards for your surnames and place-names. And, please remember to check the on-line auctions for for your surnames and place-names. ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Sun, 01 Feb 2009 08:40:11 -0500 From: "Joann H. I haven't had occasion to look for anyone, but I have seen some. Try Rootsweb if you aren't on Ancestry; however, I think the SSDI is free on Ancestry.
