Not sure if this is your "Joseph McGrath", but posted in case. The 1940 Census (unfortunately) does not give a year of immigration for him. Besides Ellisisland.org, you can also try castlegarden.org for ship manifests. It's free unless you want to order a record. Just as an FYI, the last USA Census is 1940. The only way you may find their family after that is through the U.S. Public records (Vol 1 & 2) here on Ancestry. It helps if you have a bithdate or general location). Also, there are two "Patrick McGrath's living in Worcester, MA" in the 1940 Census who were born in Ireland: Patrick Mcgrath, "United States Census, 1940" name: Patrick Mcgrath event: Census event year: 1940 event place: Ward 8, Worcester, Worcester City, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States gender: Male age: 50 marital status: Married race (standardized): White relationship to head of household (standardized): Head birthplace: Ireland estimated birth year: 1890 residence in 1935: Same House enumeration district number: 23-183 family number: 184 sheet number and letter: 8A line number: 26 nara publication number: T627 nara roll number: 1718 digital folder number: 005461163 image number: 00843 Household Gender Age Birthplace head Patrick Mcgrath M 50 Ireland wife Nellie Mcgrath F 49 Ireland daughter Mary Mcgrath F 18 Massachusetts son John Mcgrath M 16 Massachusetts daughter Elizabeth Mcgrath F 14 Massachusetts son Thomas Mcgrath M 12 Massachusetts son Francis Mcgrath M 11 Massachusetts son Vincent Mcgrath M 9 Massachusetts and this one .... There are many possibilities out there for the info you need, but without birthdates, it's almost impossible to know for sure. Good luck!
