We know she was born in June 1884 in England. We have not found a passenger list that includes her but she was in NY by 1917. We believe that she was the person who married John Barton in Kinderhook, Columbia Co NY om 14 July, 1914. I say 'believe' because the bride's name was Elizabeth LaPaugh. We are positive that Elizabeth ? was the mother of Cora Elizabeth Barton b 27 Oct 1917 in Poestenskill, Rensselaer Co, NY. The father was John Barton b 1 Sept 1858 NY. He died 3 Feb 1918 Sand Lake, Rensselaer Co NY. We lose tract of Elizabeth ? Barton until 1925 when she married James Priest in North Adams, Berkshire Co MA. Have searched all censuses without success. Dght Cora Elizabeth Barton was in the Troy City Asylum, Rensselaer Co NY orphanage on the 1920 census. She was a ward of the court until her marriage in 1937 in North Adams, Berkshire Co MA. That indicates to us that she must have been reunited with her mother, Elizabeth ? Barton Priest. On Cora's marriage license it gives the name of her parents and that is where we find the maiden name of Marshall for her mother. I am assisting a man who is the son of Cora Elizabeth Barton with this research. We are members of the same local genealogy study group. He has spent 15 yrs trying to unravel this brick wall and his mother worked on it before her death. I have read that Berkshire CO MA was once part of NY so I am assuming that it was a common occurrence for people to move btw the two states.
