    3. Has anyone had any experience trying to find information on an adoption through Catholic Charities in abt. 1955 in Boston? A friend who now lives in CA is interested in finding his birth parents and all he knows is that the adoption was through Catholic Charities and his adopted parents are deceased. Thanks for any suggestions. Joanne

    3. Hi Joanne, The only child of an adoption on my family-tree that I research was my grandmother, and that was in 1892 in Boston. So, I don't know about adoptions after 1900. But, perhaps there is a place on the web site where there is "contact information." But just a reminder that the "Catholic Church" in MA has been having "financial troubles," and might not offer much help with genealogy questions. http://www.ccab.org/ The Lowell office of this organization was closed for a year or two - because of financial problems, but I think it reopened recently. (I hope I'm remembering the news stories correctly.) Betty (near Lowell, MA) FYI: I knew a young woman in Greater Boston who "got pregnant" and this was the 1960's. Her parents "insisted" that she fly out to CA to live with an aunt and uncle for a year. Her baby was born and immediately put up for adoption. The lady came back to MA and it became a "family secret." I had known this lady during the 1950's and up to early 60's, and didn't see her again until the late 1980's. She confided in me - this story. I asked her whether she wanted to try to find her son. She said, "No !" This lady had "mental health issues," so I couldn't try to change her mind. And then she died unexpectedly 2 years ago. All this time I have wished that I could provide information to that "child put up for adoption ~1965 in CA," but it would be impossible for me - as an outsider to the situation. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Calhoun Joanne" <joannecalhoun@yahoo.com> To: <Genmassachusetts@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 01, 2009 4:24 PM Subject: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Adoptions through Catholic Charities > > Has anyone had any experience trying to find information on an adoption > through Catholic Charities in abt. 1955 in Boston?
