Hello, I'd like to mention that I was able to get to the meeting of the Chelmsford Genealogy Club on Tuesday night, and I was able to meet Dick Eastman. (I had e-mailed with him when he used to live in Billerica.) He gave a very good talk about how you can use Google to help you with your research. I use Google every day, many times a day, so I was familiar with the site. But, he discussed the "Advanced Features" on the site and I was not familiar with them. One very helpful hint is that you can limit your "search" to only words in a URL, or only words in the text, etc. If you go to the "first page," and click on "Advanced Search," you will go to this page: http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en If you scroll down to where you find: + Date, Usage Rights, etc., you will find many of the things Dick talked about. Use the "menu" for each item. It will show you how to type in your Google "search box" - for example - InURL: Wilkins Family. Dick said that everything he was talking about can be found on-line. And, probably everything can be found in the archives of his web site: www.eogn.com At the end of his talk he said there was a new book which is now out in book stores: "Google for Your Family Tree." He recommends it. http://www.googleyourfamilytree.com/ It is a regularly priced book, and it is fairly new, so it might not be in your local library, yet. By the way, a volunteer was "taping" the event. So, the "talk" might be showing up on the "local cable TV" in Chelmsford. http://www.chelmsfordtv.org/ This page on that site reminds me of something I've been meaning to mention: The History Show US veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam and other conflicts tell their stories as part of the Library of Congress' Veterans' History Project. Producer: Dean Contover, CTM http://www.chelmsfordtv.org/ctmprograms.php I don't know how long it takes to get shows on TV. This "TV listings" page reminds me of a local show which I use to watch in the past: "The Writers." It offers interviews with "local authors." I haven't watched it in a long time, and I'll have to start watching it again. Maybe 4-5 years ago I saw a local author being interviewed about his family-history book on his PATIENCE family. I borrowed the book from the library, and it was a thick book - full of information. His family was originally based in the Connecticut River Valley (MA). Have a pleasant weekend ! Get your gardens going ! I've read that "community gardens" are coming back in style. And, don't forget to stop at a "farm stand" while you are driving around this month. (And take a picnic cooler in the car with you - to store your fruits and veggies in.) :o) Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. There are shows about the "Big Band era" on public television this week, and I've been reminded of a lot of songs from the early 1900's - which included: Just give me a June night The moonlight and you and: http://www.redhotjazz.com/bigbandessay.html
