    3. In my online research I have made extensive use of the Essex probate records available at archive.org, but they only have volumes 1-3 which end with 1681. Does anyone know of an online source for later records? How about probate records (as opposed to indexes) for other counties? Thanks Jim Reid Everett, WA

I know of none. The three volumes which you have are available because they are in the public domain. > How about probate records (as opposed to indexes) for other counties? Abstracts of some early probate records have been published in genealogical journals or in books. Those which are in the public domain are usually available online. For a guide to published Massachusetts probate records and indices, see: http://plymouthcolony.net/resources/probate.html As a rule you will have to rent LDS film to find probate records. As is generally true in genealogical research, the most important resources are not online. Dale H. Cook, Member, NEHGS and MA Society of Mayflower Descendants; Plymouth Co.
