All this library talk is making me envious. I have a question and hope to get some advice. My ancestor, Mary DUNTON/DONTON/DUTTON b 1793 Roxbury, MA. I know that Roxbury is part of Boston and so far have not found one piece of proof to support the family history. Here is the hard part, I live in Oregon and won't be coming east anytime soon. As you think a about "Genealogy Clubs", libraries etc., perhaps you can suggest a good place to check next. I already subscribe to NEGHS ( not much success there), Ancestry, Genealogy Bank, have access to Heritage Quest etc. & I have been doing genealogy for a long time. Because of budget cuts for several years, I think it is only open on certain days and times. Almost every library between Boston and Lowell, etc., has a "history room." Some have more books; some have less. I found an important, genealogy book I needed at the library in Lexington. And the "history room" at the library in Billerica now has a computer in the room. And, I have wanted to start one up -- but -- I wanted to start up a joint Billerica and Chelmsford Group - but - where meetings were held in the morning. There are many .seniors. (us) who do not go out in the evenings very often. I would much prefer a meeting once a month at 10 am, possibly held at the Senior Centers - jointly. "Some day" when I have extra energy and get motivated, I will try this. Billerica and Chelmsford were both incorporated in 1655, and at the time their plantations were very large. Both towns had several towns annexed off of them. And, Billerica was all .forest. and hills, and rocks, and not so good for farming. But, Chelmsford had both the large Merrimack River and the Concord River and lots of good farming land. So many of the early settlers in Billerica moved over to Chelmsford.
