    3. Hello,   This month I have connected with a descendant of a son of Mrs. Filomena "Phoebe" (ROSA) MOURA who had moved out to Oakland, CA, during the 1920's.    The older son, "Manny" and "Cora" MOURA moved to Brooklyn, NY, and I can't find a descendant of them.      As I've mentioned before, as a recent widow, she and her 3 daughters, left the Azores and migrated to MA between 1905 and 1910.    They became Mrs. "Elsie" MOURA, Mrs. Rose PERRY, and Mrs. Carolina MEDEIROS.    We see some of their descendants at family Wakes, including a recent one.   From 2 sources, I have found the names of the parents of Filomena, b1870's in Azores, and they were Laurindo / Lucio da ROSA and Clara Emilia  (EMILIA??) from Pico and Faial.    I don't know about their entire family, but I just found out this week that, when "Phoebe" arrived in MA she stated she was coming to stay with her brother,  Antonio da ROSA,  in Cambridge.    The family had no knowledge of this.    He had been b1868, and married Maria SILVA in  Cambridge in 1889.    I think I found the couple, when older, in the 1940 census in Somerville, MA, and 2 adult sons were living with them.     I haven't had time to find out how many children they had.     For those interested in ancestors from the Azores,  I posted a query on the Portuguese-Genealogy Group  at  http://www.google.com/   a little over a week ago, and a helpful researcher did look-ups and found lots of tidbits of information for me.     He is the one who told me that Mrs. MOURA had a brother in MA.   And, he said that probably her husband died ~1905, Francisco "Frank" MOURA,  and that is why she and her 3 daughters left the Azores to come to MA.     "Frank" was from Sao Miguel, and he had married Filomena in 1888.    I had only found out about 5 children born from 1891 to 1898, but the researcher thinks they had at least one children before that.    Most of the information is in Portuguese, so I'm going to have trouble typing up a summary of it. (There is also an Azores-Group.   There are many genealogy Groups at  http://www.google.com/    and probably some at  http://www.yahoo.com/ )   I've been posting about the above couples on the Lists for 7 or 8 yrs., so there is information on them in the archives of the Lists.    ...   And, I don't remember whether I recently posted that a descendant of a MEDEIROS family in Somerville and New Bedford would .love.  to find his relatives.    We found out he is descended from Philip and Mary (MIRANDA) MEDEIROS who had 8 children.   THINK SPRING !          8" of snow here,  12"  nearby, and I heard an official Blizzard in northern Canada.   Betty          (near Lowell, MA)   (on Lists and Boards for 11 yrs.;  now an Admin for 10 Lists and 5 Boards)
