Do you think this was because he was half Native American and he wanted to escape any prejudice during this time period?I still haven't found any evidence of a springfield, mass indian school, although it is interesting that he lived in springfield in 1910...which again adds proof to the family lore. I also find it interesting his mother was born in NY, not north carolina or the southern mountains where the cherokee are located. Could he be iroquois instead of cherokee?
