A quick look at census pages and I see there were 8 households with the BRIDGES name in York County, Maine, in 1790. And, 10 more households in other counties in Maine. And, 20 households in MA. There were about 100 households with the name in the US in both 1790 and 1800. And, about half as many in both years for the BRIDGE spelling.
