Hello, Something which has been on my genealogy-to-do-list for a long time is finding the time to type up a brief summary of the life of my ancestor, Simon CROSBY, of 1600's Billerica, MA. I "finally" did it this week. While taking bits and pieces of information from the "Simon CROSBY book," I noticed something about his brother's family. To start with, it was Simon's father, Simon CROSBY, who was the patriarch of the family in the 1630's (sort of). Simon (father) had arrived in the Colonies on the "Susan and Ellen" in 1635, but his father, Thomas CROSBY, came over and lived him shortly after that. Unfortunately this Simon died in Cambridge in 1639. Thomas lived with his widowed daughter-in-law until she remarried in 1645 to Rev. William THOMPSON of Braintree. She moved her children to Braintree. They were Thomas, Simon, and Joseph. The first child became Rev. Thomas CROSBY and lived in Eastham, MA (Cape Cod), and had many descendants, most of whom remained on Cape Cod. However, I spotted the following note: "About 1780, some of them went to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia." (Another note? Among the many children of Thomas and Sarah (?) CROSBY were twins (one died at birth), and -- triplets ! This was 1678 ! ) Joseph CROSBY remained in the Braintree area. He has been discussed on the MA Lists before. Simon CROSBY, b1638/9, was the one who moved to Billerica, MA, married Rachel BRACKETT, and had many children. He is the more well-known of this extended family. Just an FYI for you. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) (The father, Thomas CROSBY, arriving in MA/US between 1635 and 1639, moved to Rowley, MA, ~1645. And one of his grandsons moved there, also. Back in England, this Thomas had sons: Anthony, Thomas, William, and Simon.) (About a year ago I believe I solved a mystery about this family. No one had definite proof of who the parents were of my ancestor, Simeon CROSBY, who married in Cambridge, MA, in 1787. I spent a month investigating and several researchers had the wrong parents (a Shrewsbury family). I found out Simeon was probably "the son" of Jessaniah CROSBY in Billerica. The "records" only mention "a son" but I believe that was Simeon, b1761 in Billerica. And the marriage record, I'm told, said that Simeon was "of Billerica." Simeon married Lydia Harrington FROST, and they reportedly only had one son, John CROSBY, b1797.)
