Hello, I was at a store in Downtown Lowell today and walked by the old, now abandoned "Spanish church" on Merrimack Street. There are at least 2 buildings beside it, and probably attached to it. I've walked by the church many times, but this time I looked under a bush and saw a small plaque. It said, "The Gustavus Fox House." I couldn't read "the small print" but I believe he lived in the 1800's. When I got home, I looked on-line and found out he was an important man, and not only in Lowell. http://www.mrlincolnswhitehouse.org/inside.asp?ID=47&subjectID=2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustavus_Fox http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/pers-us/uspers-f/gv-fox.htm A quick look at census information shows him living in Lawrence, with a wife, Virginia. Betty (near Lowell, MA) FYI: I'm sorry I don't recall the names... of that "Spanish church" in Lowell at the moment. I know it's been discussed on the Lists before; it has a long history. The long-abandoned church now has a "For Sale" sign on it.
