Hi Susan, I looked Herbert HOWE up, and he's living on Elm St. in Cambridge. I then looked up Elm St. in my old street-map book, and there are 2. One is over near "Fresh Pond" on the Watertown line. The other is in another part of the city, which is opposite from Cambridgeport. It's the one near the Somerville line. Elm St. goes over "towards" Central Square. And, Central Square would be the start of Cambridgeport (going towards the River). I'm somewhat familiar with the area, and there probably would have been many large houses or boarding houses in the Elm St. area. And, my hubby says that there were still "ice wagons" in Cambridge when he was growing up. (His Irish grandfather drove a "horse and wagon" and took care of the horses in Cambridgeport. His mother referred to the neighborhood as the "lace-curtain Irish." :o) Betty (near Lowell, MA) ----- Original Message ----- From: <DGoo249076@aol.com> To: <GenMassachusetts-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 12, 2009 5:22 PM Subject: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Address in Cambridgeport (Cambridge) MA. 1880 > Listers > Might I ask you to bear with me once more and do another look up if > possiblt? > I had a great uncle who was an ice team driver residing in a boarding > house > (I am assuming that's what it was) in Cambridgeport in 1880.
