Edmund GREENLEAF, dyer, gent., was at Newbury in the late 1630s, later at Boston. Is there anything on his English ancestry? thanks, Charles

It has been speculated that he was the son of Edmund of St. Mary's le Tour, Ipswich, Suffolk, England - see William S. Appleton, "The Greenleaf Ancestry" (NEHGR, 38 [1884]:299-301) and pp. 358-359 of Elizabeth French, "Genealogical Research in England: Leager and Greene, Ewer, and Greenleaf" (NEHGR, 69 [1933]:353-359). The latter points out that 1574 is too early for the baptism of the immigrant, who was probably born around 1590. Dale H. Cook, Member, NEHGS and MA Society of Mayflower Descendants; Plymouth Co.
