Hello, In this morning's "MassMoments" e-mail, there is a story about the "mill girl" from Lowell, Lucy LARCOM. http://www.massmoments.org:80/moment.cfm?mid=116 It's a good time to remind people that, if you are going to be visiting in Boston this weekend, a trip to Lowell might be a nice "day trip." http://www.nps.gov/lowe/ http://www.lowellma.gov/community/historicpark http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/northeast/llhp.htm Betty (near Lowell, MA) FYI: Maybe 10 years ago, I took rides on the "Boston to Lowell Commuter Rail" trains more often. One day I took a ride into Lowell and got off in the train station there, and noticed a woman who looked puzzled. She wanted to know how to get to "Lowell National Historic Park." I had some free time that day and decided to accompany her to the Visitors Center. In the process I found out that she was a resident of the State of Hawaii and she was in MA on vacation and visiting friends. Her friends were working, so she decided to get on the train and come to Lowell. I asked her, coming from the "beautiful islands," why was she interested in "the mills?" I don't remember her exact response, but she had an interest in "history." A few weeks later I received a box of "Macadamia nuts" in the mail. :o)
