In the 1850 census for Tuftonboro NH there is an Elisha Smith, aged 74, born in Massachusetts and married to Sarah, aged 70. Next on the census is Isaac D Smith, my great great grandfather, his wife Mary (Chamberlin), their children Sarah and Mary, and nephew Charles Ayers (my great grandfather William was born the next year). I think Elisha is Isaac's father - and Elisha seems to have been there in 1840 as well. I got a lead that Elisha was born in Worcester in November 1776, son of Elisha and Persis Child(s). There appear to be 2 Elishas born 'about 1777' as there is also one on the 1850 census for Worcester. Does anyone know anything that might help? Both pages read as being collected in October so that seems to eliminate the idea that he lived in both places in different parts of the year and were counted twice.. If my Elisha was indeed born in Worcester I'd like to find out when he went north - and when he married Sarah and what her last name might be. She is my last unknown of that generation! Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! faye
