In Massachusetts one seldom finds the names of parents in a marriage record until the advent of statewide vital records reporting in the 1840s. Even then, compliance varied. As an example, Eliza G. (Pike) Bean died in 1847, and George J. Bean remarried later that year. His 1847 marriage record does not have parents' names, even though some Lowell records of the previous few years do have them. Do you know when and where George died? The 1847 death record of his first wife, for example, names her parents. Dale H. Cook, Member, NEHGS and MA Society of Mayflower Descendants; Plymouth Co.
