    1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Keeping "Safe Box" beside the door

    3. Hi again, I might have mentioned it earlier this year, but at the time I read someplace (or heard someplace) that back in history --- people would put a "strong box" right beside the front door. This would probably not be "Martha Stewart correct," and it probably hasn't been done in centuries, but it sounds like a very good idea to me ! There are many instances (such as in the news recently), when you only have "minutes" to escape your home. And, having a "fire-proof, water-proof box" - always sitting right beside your front door - would make it easy to "save" it. And, as has been suggested, send a "copy" of your very important documents to your friend, relative, or neighbor. Just remembering that your friend, relative, or neighbor can suffer as disaster just as well as you can. And, don't forget to "save" your most important genealogy - to disk or - something transportable. As I sit here, I have another thought. Wouldn't it be nice if some company created a ... fire-proof and water-proof, two-drawer filing cabinet. Maybe on wheels. I've seen the new "safety boxes" in the stores this month, and only a few papers would fit into them. Or, maybe .. fire-proof and water-proof, 18-gal. boxes - for storing your most important "family photos." About 20 years ago I lost a few family photos because some were in a cardboard box which was sitting beside a window. Water got into the box - from moisture from the winter window.
