Jones, one of the former proprietors of the Athol Transcript, died at Santa Barbara, Cal., Monday." and also in the National Aegis (Milford, Mass.)dated May 16, 1874 under the heading "Athol.": "--Mr. Edward F. Jones, one of the former proprietors of the Athol Transcript, died at Santa Barbara, Cal., Monday." The dates would put Edward's death on Monday, May 11, 1874. Santa Barbara had a lot of hot springs spas then and as mentioned in his obit you have from the Aroostook Times maybe he was there for his health. I will look to see if there is an obit for his wife.
