THOMPSON. THOMPSON is a popular name, and there were a half-dozen Charles' in 1870 in Suffolk Co. But, when I read your post, you mentioned Charlestown. I just checked to find out when Charlestown left Middlesex Co. and became part of Suffolk Co., and it was after 1870. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlestown,_Boston I couldn't find the correct Charles in 1870 in Suffolk Co., but this might be the correct one in Middlesex Co. No other information is mentioned for him. If he was 21, he might have been born ~1848/50. I'm not spotting him in 1860 as a youngster. THOMPSON, CHARLES H (1870 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, 1-WD CHARLESTOWN Age: 21, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: MA Series: M593 Roll: 625 Page: 82 There are at least 8-10 pages of "laborers" at the State Prison in 1870. It might be a guess as to where Charles H. THOMPSON was in 1880. Still in prison? Or, out and living in some city at Age 31. At www.familysearch.org there are many Charles H. THOMPSON's mentioned, including one who fought from MA in the Civil War. Possibly very young men in the Civil War became alcoholics. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. I wonder how many State Prisons there were in MA in 1870. FYI: While I was looking for that Charles THOMPSON, I came across at least 8-10 pages of "sailors" in Suffolk Co., supposedly in a Boarding House. The majority were from England, Ireland, Scotland, etc. This was 1870. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
