My research - done some time ago so would need to be checked, indicated he was the son of Daniel Berry born circa 1817 in Heckmondwike and a Mary Ann Kelly born circa 1817 in either Heckmondwike or Gomersal (both used on census records). The marriage of this couple appeared to take place in 1838 Daniel BERRY 1838 Oct-Dec DEWSBURY Yorkshire Volume: 22 Page: 20 with the birth of their eldest son John taking place 1 year later in Oct-Dec 1839. John married Mary Ann Jowett in 1861 John BERRY 1861 Jul-Aug-Sep Pontefract Yorkshire Volume: 9c Page: 1 and this couple had 6 children, the youngest was Alice Maud Mary Berry who's birth in Massachusetts I am looking for. The George Berry you are looking for born 1804 in Heckmondwike - was one of 12 children. I am descended through his younger brother Thomas Berry born 1813 in Heckmondwike. I think several of these siblings emigrated - possibly to the USA - as they suddenly disappear from census records. The younger brother John Berry, born circa 1829 in Heckmondwike, is one of these. He married a woman called Betty, had 3 children then the whole family disappeared between 1861 and 1871. Their son was called Preston Berry born circa 1860 in England, so you may be able to find him on US census records if they emigrated. I have never found a death or marriage record for someone with that unusual name in UK records. So there may be a branch related to you in the USA descended from this family.
