Author: rhollerperry Surnames: Menice and Perry Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.massachusetts.unknown/7395/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Looking for any info on where in the Azores and Portugal 2 Portuguese Families originated. #1-Vitrene and Mary Menice,found on the 1900 Taunton Ma census-living with Lena 12,Gertrude 6,Jeanne 4,and Antoine 3.Vitrene,Mary and Lena from the Azores arrived in US in 1893 from Western Islands,Id as farmer. #2 Jeanne known as Jenni married John Joseph Perry believed to have been "Persiera" from Lisbon -who arrived in US in 1900,settled in Taunton.This family found on 1920 Taunton census-ward 7-Mary 7,Rose 6,Manuel 4,Margaret 3,John 1. There were 4 more children-Anthony,Francis,Elizabeth and Joey.All ended up in New Haven Ct.Parents worked on New Haven Railroad,don't know when the move happened. These are my husbands Great-grandparents down,his dad was John.We would love to know where in the Azores the Menice family originated and as for the Perry line we were told he was a palace guard that had to run for his life,during an uprising in 1888,however this does not work with an 1881 birth,he was 39 on the 1920 census,maybe a later uprising? I've looked up Lisbon and Don Juan Carlo's and history shows a lot of discord. We of course have info on the Perry's down but none on the Menice line,my husband remembers visiting Great Aunt Gertie in Taunton as a child and having fun! We appreciated any help!!!
