Hello, I'd just like to remind researchers that posting your queries on the Lists and Boards is almost always fruitful. Over my past 10 yrs. on-line, possible 2/3 of the information I've gathered on my family-tree came from responses to my queries. And, it doesn't matter whether I posted a query 5 - 8 yrs. ago. One of my phrases is: You can't hurry - genealogy ! As most of you know, about 1 1/2 years ago I started to attempt to create a family-tree for a close family. A large FITZGERALD family, of 2 generations. With the help of many others, and a lot of on-line researching, I was able to put together a good outline of the FITZGERALD line. But, there was one couple who divorced early into their marriage, and they have been a mystery for us - in several directions. But, the bigger of the mysteries is that no one knew what happened to the grandfather of the older generation. He was Michael Albert FITZGERALD, b1882 in Boston, and had parents, John and Catherine (SMITH) FITZGERALD of "Haymarket Square" in Boston. Unfortunately, they both died during 1890's and left 2 teen-age sons. Michael married in Medford to Ella BLAKELY, and they also had 2 sons. But, it seems shortly after the sons were born, they separated and probably divorced. The 1920 census has Ella and their 2 children living in Cambridge, and they had a boarder, Thomas "Jack" KELLEY, living with them. It appears that "Jack" and Ella married, as they had several children. And, up until their passing in 1964 and 1974, they were known to their family as Grampy and Grammy KELLEY (Porter Square, Cambridge area). But, no one in the family knew what happened to Michael FITZGERALD. They had heard that he lived in Boston for a short time, and had remarried to a younger woman. And, that's all they knew. Last year I tried to find information on him, and there was one possibility that he died on Cape Cod. But there were were too many Michael's and John's to be able to identify which person that was. Yesterday a very helpful researcher on the FITZGERALD List did a lot of look-ups for me, and decided that the Michael who died on Cape Cod was probably the man we are looking for. I took a chance yesterday morning and e-mailed the Town Clerk in Bourne, MA, to ask if they would look at the 1971 death-record for me. I only asked for confirmation that the parents' names were the same names I had. Yesterday afternoon the Clerk responsed and stated - that was the missing grandfather ! So, I just e-mailed the Bourne Public Library to ask if they could try to find an obituary for him. On the death-record, it stated that his wife was Mrs. Frances (DANE??) FITZGERALD, and she lived in Monument Beach. That is a village within Bourne. If she was the 2nd wife and she was younger, then she might have passed during 1970's or 1980's. By the way, Michael would have been close to 90 when he passed. Betty (near Lowell, MA) (Michael's son, John FITZGERALD, married Hazel OGDEN. And, because of my postings, I have found more descendants of the OGDEN family in Cambridge.) (For new people on this List, there are more details in the archives of this List.)
