Hi I need some help to research my Hessian ancestor and his fellow soldier friend from the Revolutionary War. They were captured at sea on the British transport Brig--Favorite--and landed first in Maine then sent to Boston. Later they were sent inland to the Worcester jail and from there they were paroled out to work for their keep with local farmers until the Rutland Barracks could be completed. They were then interred there for some months. My Hessian signed a petition to be set free from these Barracks in 1779--Also on his petition appeared the names of the Select men of Paxton---Phineas Moore and John Avery. I need to know if any of these Selectmen's papers still exist and if they mention other Hessians who were POW's who remained in the area after the war--having taken the oath of allegiance and becoming Americans at the time. My Hessian is Georg Zacharias Hattstätt and his friend is Peter Rine Hart. I need to know if those records have any information about either of these men. Can anyone help with this search? I would appreciate this a lot as I cannot travel to research myself. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely; Jo Ann Hatstat [email protected]
