Two questions related to land in what is now Sharon, Mass. (formerly Dorchester, then Stoughton, then Stoughtonham; first in Suffolk County, now in Norfolk County) and the HIXSON family (also spelled Hixon, Hickson, etc.) These are items from "Sharon, Massachusetts: A History" by Sharon American Revolution Bicentennial Committee (Sharon, Mass., 1976). (1) "According to the records of the Sharon Assessors of Taxes, the Cobb's Tavern land originally was owned by Richard Hixon, who received it as a grant from the King of England. Edgar M. Hixon, great-grandson of Richard and at one time one of the Assessors of the town, substantiated this from his own family's records." (page 37) This Richard was probably the second of the name, born ~1692. (2) Richard (born ~1692) and his brother John donated the land for the Chestnut Tree Cemetery, laid out about 1730. I would like to find any records relating to these transfers. I am a member of NEHGS and have a copy of the Suffolk County deeds index. This includes the purchase of land in 1708 by Richard Hixson born ~1660 (father of John and Richard-2) but not either of the transfers listed above. Can anyone suggest where I might find this information, at NEHGS or elsewhere? adTHANKSvance!

They are probably not at NEHGS unless they have microfilm of them at the library on Newbury St. Check the Family History Library catalog - you may be able to rent film of them at your Family History Center. The only alternative is likely a trip to the Suffolk Co. Registry of Deeds. If you were looking for somewhat earlier deeds it would be easy, as the deeds through 1697 were published in 14 volumes between 1880 and 1906. Dale H.
