I got Alberts name as the father of John C. (b. 1848) from the Machias town clerk. I'd like to add that John C.,1848, had possibly more siblings than just two brothers. I've gone over the whole US Census for MA for the years 1850,1860 and some 1870 and haven't had much luck. However, I do think I spotted a two year old boy listed as John C. Smith in the 1850 US Census in Cambridge MA, which is right by Boston. As I remember it doesn't always come up on my computer and the fathers name was not Albert.I'll try to bring it up again.
