    3. Hello, Someone on the "Orphan Trains" List just mentioned that there is a documentary on PBS about the "Orphan Trains." I just went to the web site and found it mentioned: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/orphan/ For people who know about that part of the US history, you might think that it was all about New York City. But, upon reading the book, "Boston's Wayward Children," I found out that the "movement" actually started in Boston. When NYC officials found out about it, they started it. As I understand it, the majority of the not-well-cared-for children in Boston were sent to farms in northern New England, including Maine. But, some were sent to farms in the mid-west. But, NYC officials sent their "needy children" -- all over the country ! There is also a movie about the Orphan Trains, and I'll try to find the name of it. I think Glenn Close had a part in it. Betty (near Lowell, MA) ( Anyone interested in: NEW-ENGLAND-MEMORIES ? ) *** We may have arrived on different ships but we're all in the same boat now. :o) (thinking genealogy) (possibly first said by Martin Luther King, Jr.)
