Hello, I was just mentioning on another List that both my grandfather and his father, and probably his relatives worked at the Cochran Chemical Works in Everett. (They worked at a "chemical works," and I'm guessing that was the one.) Out of curiousity, I Googled for that company, and am finding some interesting Google / Books which mention that company: http://books.google.com/books?id=Kn1LAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA52&lpg=PA52&dq=%22Cochran+Chemical+Works%22&source=bl&ots=5GRyzCz6S0&sig=g7B3mHTaB7jTG05cKEsi9u055pw&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=3&ct=result#PPA53,M1 http://books.google.com/books?id=qNdKAAAAMAAJ&pg=RA2-PA29&lpg=RA2-PA29&dq=%22Cochran+Chemical+Works%22&source=web&ots=8_o6MT0JrM&sig=HytK6bhOW7QRE_g_H26kzcc72NU&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=2&ct=result http://books.google.com/books?id=qvsWAAAAYAAJ&pg=RA1-PA29&lpg=RA1-PA29&dq=%22Cochran+Chemical+Works%22&source=web&ots=PVZuBPxjzz&sig=mOtDV1zUrJedK2tCUFflRn7bhOw&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result My grandfather's family believed that he developed Asthma as an adult because of working at the "chemical works." And, his father, I think, also worked there, and his "death record" from 1905 said he also had TB, in addition to suffering from "perotinitis" - which is a bacterial infection. He "dropped dead" at the supper table. http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/peritonitis-000127.htm Oh, here's another Google / Book someone might like to look at. "City Directory, 1904, Malden." http://books.google.com/books?id=pnADAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA353&lpg=PA353&dq=%22chemical+works,+Everett%22&source=web&ots=vxSZP13flP&sig=eo8jCJ4clHWGArP05clm1KdtbiU&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=4&ct=result#PPA14-IA1,M1 and one for 1882 http://books.google.com/books?id=D_UCAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA96&lpg=PA96&dq=%22chemical+works,+Everett%22&source=web&ots=TWddw3dZzN&sig=56NxzavNCZ57UO77lTHhWyKrCZI&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=8&ct=result#PPR1,M1 And an "Illustrated Magazine for Pharmacists" from 1903: http://books.google.com/books?id=oxlOAAAAMAAJ&pg=RA1-PR4&lpg=RA1-PR4&dq=%22chemical+works,+Everett%22&source=web&ots=7_PNNT10mV&sig=LVik8xgQXUrDp0usoRtMQcNfYwA&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=6&ct=result#PPA3,M1 Another cause of death? "falling at work" (mentioned above). Betty (near Lowell, MA)
