Hello, For non-genealogy reasons, I have an interest in a LINEHAN family which might have had a large property or a farm in Chelmsford, or on the Chelmsford / Westford line during the first half of the 1900's. I was wondering if anyone knew of them. I just checked census information, and the name first shows up in MA in the 1860 census, 17 people in various counties. In 1870, 39 people, mostly in Essex Co. In 1880, 116 people in various counties, but mostly in Suffolk Co. and Bristol Co. In 1880 in Middlesex Co., most are in Somerville and Arlington. In 1900, the number drops down to 73 people, and most are in Suffolk Co. and Essex Co. In Middlesex Co., the people are mostly in the Cambridge and Waltham area, with 2 in Lowell. In 1910, the number jumps back up to 140 people, with most in Suffolk Co., Essex Co., and Middlesex Co. In Middlesex Co., most are in Cambridge and Somerville. In 1920, 164 people, with most in the same counties. The families are mostly still in Cambridge and Somerville. One man is in Lowell. None in Chelmsford or Westford. I cannot check the 1930 census. So, perhaps the LINEHAN family bought the land in Chelmsford during the 1920's or 1930's. (From postings last year, I had found out that several families came down from Canada to buy large properties in Chelmsford ~1900. Chelmsford (and Westford) were originally full of farms. PARLEE and LOISELLE are 2 names which are present in Chelmsford now.) Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA)
