ANNOUNCING NEW DATABASE BOOK 4 - INTERMENT INDEX ST. MARY'S CEMETERY, TROY NEW YORK INTERMENT YEARS - April 1935 - November 1952 A. Book 4, part of a multi-volume set of Interment Records at St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy, NY, which includes 5,112 names, has now been added to the Troy Irish Genealogy website. You can view these interment records by going to the Troy Irish Genealogy website at: www.rootsweb.com/~nytigs/ click on TIGS PROJECTS and then click on ST. MARY'S CEMETERY, TROY, NY - INTERMENT RECORDS. B. This new data series of interment records list an individuals name, date of death and age at death. In a large number of records, the age is reported in years, months and days. Some entries without a date of death, are re-interments to or from another cemetery. It should be noted that these records, like most of the TIGS data series, cover the general population in the area and are NOT restricted to Irish surnames. C. Researchers having relatives with a CAPITAL DISTRICT area connection, will be interested in these on-line, name searchable, records of names of individuals who were interred in St. Mary's Cemetery in Troy, NY. If you live in a nearby county or even further away, you might want to check out these names. Take a look at the data base, you never know what you will find. D. The TIGS website has a PRINTABLE FORM that can be used to request more information from the Albany Diocesan Cemeteries. Mailing instructions and fees (only $5.00) are on the request form. Additional items that may be available from the full interment record may include: 1. LATE RESIDENCE: While many of the records in Book 4 show only the name of the city as the late residence, 1,348 of the records will show a house number and a Troy street address. 2. INTERMENT DATE: The date of interment in St. Mary's Cemetery may be another clue which will be helpful to genealogy and family researchers. 3. SECTION/LOT#: The section and lot number may be another clue which will be helpful to genealogy and family researchers. 4. UNDERTAKER: The name of the undertaker may be another clue which will be helpful to genealogy and family researchers. E. The following information on the 5,112 deaths will be of interest: 1. No age was reported for 208 names and 112 records were identified as "Still Born". 2. A breakdown of the other deaths by age groups shows: Under 1 year - 210 names. Age 1 to 10 - 95 names. Age 11 to 19 - 37 names. Age 20 to 29 - 114 names. Age 30 to 39 - 186 names. Age 40 to 49 - 355 names. Age 50 to 59 - 789 names. Age 60 to 69 - 1,261 names. Age 70 to 79 - 1,190 names. Age 80 to 89 - 489 names. Age 90 to 99 - 63 names. Age 100+ - 1 name. F. Nearly all of the 5,112 interment records showed some indication of residence. Those records will be of interest to researchers outside of the Troy Area as they identify residences in numerous cities and towns throughout New York State as well as 21 other states and Canada. While most of the records were for the Capital District Area, other areas throughout New York State were reported. Some specifics on residence information follow: 1. The following NYS locations had three or more records: Albany-136, Averill Park-4, Bethlehem-4, , Brunswick-31, Buffalo-3, Cohoes-42, Colonie-19, Cropsyville-3, East Greenbush-6, Glens Falls-8, Glenville-4, Grafton-3, Green Island-111, Hawthorne-3, Hoosick-4, Hudson-6, Marcy-3, Mechanicville-5, Menands-7, North Greenbush-107, Oneonta-4, Orangeburg-3, Petersburg-3, Pittstown-5, Plattsburgh-3, Poestenkill-9, Poughkeepsie-105, Rensselaer-4, Rochester-3, Rome-4, Sand Lake-14, Saratoga Springs-14, Schaghticoke-13, Schenectady-43, Syracuse-4, Troy-3,502 including 1,348 with street addresses, Utica-11, Voorheesville-5, Waterford-9, Watervliet-144 and Wynantskill-4. 2. The following NYS locations had 2 records: Cambridge, Canton, Castle Point, Center Brunswick, Chester, Claverack, Corinth, Groveland, Guilderland, Halfmoon, Ilion, Latham, Mount Pleasant, Niskayuna, North Elba, Oxford, Pleasantdale, Rotterdam and Saranac Lake. 3. The following NYS locations had 1 record: Altamont, Ballston Spa, Batavia, Bath, Beacon, Berlin, Brewster, Broadalbin, Eagle Mills, Elmira, Fort Edward, Grand island, Greenwich, Herkimer, Hoosick Falls, Hudson Falls, Kingston, Lake Placid, Loudonville, Lyons, Malta, Malvern, Melrose, Moreau, Ogdensburg, Oriskany, Penn Yan, Red Hook, Salem, Schodack, Schuylerville, St. Johnsville, Suffern, Tamarack, Valley Falls, Vienna, Webb, West Haverstraw, West Seneca and Wingdale. 4. For the New York City area, there were 97 records for Manhattan, 9 records for Brooklyn, 8 records for Queens, 1 record for the Bronx, 10 records for Westchester and 9 records for Long Island. Three records indicated "New York" so it is unclear if this meant New York State or New York City. 5. There were a number of records from the neighboring states of Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut and New Jersey. Connecticut has 8 records, Massachusetts had 12 records, Vermont had 8 and New Jersey had 22 records. 6. Residence was also indicated from the following states: Arkansas, Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. 7. The only foreign country listed was Canada. 8. The following organizations (hospitals, nursing homes, religious institutions) were indicated as the residence; Albany Hospital-6, Leonard Hospital-30, Marshall's Sanitarium-5, McCarthy Rest Home-4, Nightingale Home-7, Samaritan Hospital-24, St. Mary's Hospital-6, St. Joseph's Maternity Hospital- 3, Troy Hospital-79, Home for the Aged-6, Sisters of the Good Shepherd-10, Little Sisters of the Poor-72 and the Welfare Home-13. 9. !3 Records were burials of Servicemen killed in Europe or the Pacific during World War II. G. There are now 17,009 interment records in the four Books of St. Mary's Cemetery records now on-line on the TIGS website. Book 5 of St. Mary's interments records is now being scanned. Hopefully you will find some of your ancestors listed in these interment records or in the 200,00 Irish and Non-Irish names in the various other data series on the Troy Irish Genealogy website. I was told by someone at the library through email correspondence there was one male and given a name. But that was barkig up the wrong tree. A nice member from ancestry contacted me and I found out there were 2 males but one was restricted. He must be the restricted one because of his adoption. If you don't have and still reside in Massachusetts or in the Fitchburg area then swing by the Fitchburg Town/City Hall and request the certificate. If all the information was known then her parents should be listed on the death certificate. Secondly think of the following questions. If you have thought them then rethink them as I give the following information. Why did our ancestor come to the United States? Why did she go to Fitchburg? Who was she going to? Our ancestors came to the U.S. for a number of reason and basically a new start on life. Why did she go to Fitchburg? Our ancestors went to a certain place because other family members were there already. Now who were the family members already in place/Fitchburg that she was going to? Was it her parents? Possibly with the ages of the people there and the women whose name is Julia/Giulia. However I'm not 100% positive for this to be the case. I believe there is a stronger chance that your Grandmother was going to her older brother residence. ***Note***Keep an open mind though that the ones she was going to see could have been her parents. Julia would have been around 12 when she would have given birth. It's unlikely this happened but possible. 1. From (ancestry.com) - The New York Passenger List 1820 to 1957 shows the ship Dante Alighieri arriving at Ellis Island, New York on Jan. 29, 1920. The ship sailed from the Italian Port of Genova on January 10, 1920. On line #24 of the manifest was the passenger Antoniette Catalani age 19 and her occupaton was millinery. Her last residence was Sagliano, Micca, Italy and the person she left in Italy was her Aunt Rose Albini. Her destination was Fitchburg, Mass. ***Note*** I believe this to be your Grandmother. 2. From (ancestry.com) - The United States Census Reports. The spelling of names can change drastically from what you are looking for so always use the soundex when looking for your surname. 1920 Federal Census Fitchburg, Worcester County, Massachusetts January 23, 1920 14 Belmont Street Surname: Catalani indexed as Cattalini Cattalini, Nazareno Head 36 yrs born 1883 Italy Cattalini, Julia Wife 31 yrs born 1888 Italy Cattalini, Adeline Dau 9 yrs born 1910 Italy Cattalini, Dominic Son 8 yrs born 1911 Italy Cattalini, Antonio Son 5 yrs born 1914 Mass. Cattalini, Josephine Dau 3 yrs born 1916 Mass. Nazareno was working for the town of Fitchburg's Sew Dept. He stated that he immigrated to the U.S. in 1911. Julia stated that she immigrated to the U.S. in 1912. Again the reporting system is only as good as the information reported. Mass. Vital Records shows that the son Anthony was born in Fitchburg on July 3, 1914. The mother's maiden name in the record shows Couti but other records indicate the last name as Conti. Keep both names handy as your search. 3. From (ancestry.com) - New York Passenger List 1820 to 1957. On April 3, 1912 Nazareno Catalini age 29 arrived at Ellis Island, New York. He was traveling with Basilio Catalini (most likely a brother) and he left according to the manifest his wife Julia in Italy. Destination was Boston, Mass. On April 17, 1913 Julia arrived at Ellis Island onboard the ship Konig Albert. The Ship's manifest listed her as Giulia Conti age 24 and her two children Adel age 3, and Domenico age 1 were also listed as Conti. ***Note***Alot of married women traveled under the maiden names. 4. From (ancestry.com) World War 1 Draft Registration Card Listed as Mazzarine Catalini born March 9, 1883. He gave his address as 37 Center Street Fitchburg, Mass., works for the city of Fitchburg, and the next of Kin is wife Julia. Card was signed September 12, 1918. World War 2 Draft Registation Card listed Nazzarreno Catalini born March 9, 1883 in Amantola, Italy. His address was 76 Heywood St. Fitchburg, Mass., and he works for the city of Fitchburg. Next of kin is wife Julia. Card signed April 26, 1942. 5. From (ancestry.com) - U.S. Federal Census Reports The 1930 Census for Fitchburg, Mass. shows the family name to be Catalini. They were residing at 76 Heywood Street. Members of the house were: Nazzareno age 47, Julia age 41, Adele age 20, Dominic age 18, Anthony age 15, Josephine age 13, Donate age 9, Anna age 7, and Albert age 4. The 1940 Census for Fitchburg, Mass. shows the family name to be Catalini. They were still residing at 76 Heywood Street. Members of the house were: Nazzareno age 56, Julia age 52, Josephine age 23, Daniel age 18, Anna age 17, Albert age 14, and Robert age 9. Some of the older children married during the past 10 yrs. 6. From (ancestry.com) - City Directories Checked the city directories for Fitchburg and followed the family till 1965 (last directory available). Towards the late 1940's they moved from the 76 Heywood Street back to 14 Belmont Street. The 1957 City Directory showed Julia as a widow and that Nazareno died November 15, 1955 at the age of 72. 7. From (ancestry.com) - SSDI (social security death index) Shows that Julia Catalini was born Aug. 19, 1888 and that she died February 1973 in Fitchburg. 8. From (ancestry.com) - There is one researcher that shows the parents of Nazzareno Catalini as Antonio Catalini and Giulia Costantini. ***Note*** The mother's name is Giulia (Julia) and for this reason I believe stronly that Nazzareno is an older brother to your Grandmother. Hopefully this helps. It doesn't answer your questions fully but it does give you more names to work with and I believe it gives you a family connection. What the connection is depends on what you can find from this point. Good Luck, Fran Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I don't know if Ancestry has it or not. Margaret Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You could go to Mass Vitals and see if her father was listed on it but if she was born out of wedlock then it probably isn't there. Same thing with her marriage record - might be listed but might not. You could try searching for Italian message boards and see if anyone there could help. So many unknowns but the challenge makes it that much more intriguing! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In 1910 there were over 40 people with the TRAINER name, and 3 in Middlesex Co. But the 2 couples in Malden were around 50 and no children were mentioned. Looking at the handwriting, the name TRAINER could very well have had an "S" at the end of it. But TRAINERS is hardly mentioned. I just checked at www.familysearch.org and there was an Alexander TRAINOR born in Somerville, MA, in 1868, with parents, James and Mary. And it shows an Alfred TRAINOR living in a home in Brooklyn, NY, in 1905 - with a large, extended family, with parents, John and Mary TRAINOR: View image Save image Search collection About this collection name: Alfred Trainor residence: Brooklyn, Kings, New York age: 2 estimated birth year: 1903 birthplace: United States relationship to head of household: Son race: W gender: family number: 98 page number: 2 line number: 26 film number: 1930247 digital folder number: 4296309 image number: 00424 Household Gender Age Birthplace head William Sparks M 72y England daughter Neria Sparks F 39y United States son Alfred A Sparks M 34y United States father Edward W Tigue M 52y United States daughter Annie Tigue F 34y United States daughter Mamie Tigue F 31y United States daughter Maggie Tigue F 29y United States son Edward W Tigue M 21y United States son William P Tigue M 19y United States head John Trainor M 28y United States wife Mary A Trainor F 26y United States son Alfred Trainor M 2y United States boarder Lila Berry F 16y United States With the spelling, TRAINOR, I went back to HeritageQuest, and there are many more people with that name.
